- League has started. Please fill out the times you want to play. If you think you can be a backup you can put that too. Push yakuman.

- Khubie

- /mjg/ translated and put up a WWYD book on the repo that includes bakyou and responses from 3 high ranked tenhou players with their reasoning, check it out.

>Kaavi's fortune
This thread's lucky yaku is...Chankan! Robbing a kan? Wow! Anon, have you ever had your kan robbed? You think you're flipping that kan as shiny dora but NO! Someone calls your kan tile to complete their hand! It's horrible! Not that it's ever happened to me, of course. What an insidious yaku! It's great! The lesson is to be caution when calling a kan, chankan gives your opponent an extra han if they're ready, or even more rarely it acts as their only yaku and they ron! You would have been better off discarding the tile normally! Devious. Kan with care, and flow will be on your side!

I wanted to ask a question, but saw that the thread died so I baked one.
I got the achievement for the 100 games played in MJS and I'm currently at 562 rank points. I feel like I know the basics now, but I'm extremely non-consistent. I thought about watching that 3h long video, but after looking at the list of topics it seems to me that it only talks about basics of the game.
Next natural step seems to be reading some material and that's what I wanted to ask you:
What do you recommend Riichi Book 1 or Japanese Mahjong Strategy?

RB1 is the more complete book but more difficult to understand compared to the Puyo one/JMS. I know people who started with RB1, found it a bit 'overwhelming', read JMS and after understanding that giving RB1 another go.

I went out of my way to avoid reading anything because I'm a retard like that. I've heard both are good though.

Then it seems logical to start with the JMS. After I finish it, and get a few more hundred games under my belt, then read RB1.

I respect it, I know some people like that. Me, personally, I like theory. When I'm learning any new thing I pay maybe even too much attention to the theory.

I like theory, I just like developing my theory by arguing (or simply talking more often than not these days) with people. I can't retain shit that I read unless it's an "event".

>> No.78933914

Like the WWYD's puzzles are probably pretty good, but out of all the ones I've done, I can only really remember the stuff that I saw anons arguing about.

Riichi Book 1 is the how to mahjong for retards.
You only need to skip the first part about that dead client Tenhou which was the only available client back in the days.
