What is with people in chat saying "I gotta go, bye" all the time when they're done watching the stream? Do they seriously think the vtuber is going to reply to them? Some of them even go so far as to explain where they're going as if anyone cares.

They are taught to greet people when they enter, announce their departure when they leave a group of people, express their worry to someone because it is supposed to be taken as a form of concern, and reprimand people who misbehave without considering whether they are bots or deliberately seeking that reaction. Whether it makes sense or not does not enter their minds.

Yes. I get this with a streamer. I think she streams to just wind down and unload her thoughts for thr day since she moved to a different nation and doesn't know the language well. When they are at single digits you don't want them to realize everyone is gone and they were just talking to themselves themselves whole time.

Not to mention most of them have a rule that you're not supposed to talk to other people in the chat, and that blatantly breaks it. That said I don't mind when people give a quick explanation of what the streamer is up to, for the benefit of the people who come into a Japanese stream and don't speak Japanese. I think that's nice of them to do.

Nobody does this
You clap as an audience to show appreciation for the performance that just concluded, but you as an individual don't wave goodbye to the artist as though you personally know them and want them to know that you'll catch up later

I do have one person I like with sub-10 viewers, I've never spoken in her chat but it causes me physical pain to leave her stream and it hurts when I can't watch her, I have no idea how she brings herself to stream as often as she does with so few people watching. Her voice is really cute and she has great taste in historical figures but her model is not so good unfortunately. Which is a shame because the design is really good, it just needs to be represented by a better model.
