the reason why they're doing these half-anniversary shit is because the publishers are aware that there's a chance the game won't even last a year, and doing half anniversaries just gives them an excuse to celebrate a milestone or something. but yeah NijiEN abuses it so much they don't feel special anymore.

also one of my huge peeves about this is that they always misuse the word "anniversary", which itself means "once per YEAR". calling a 1 month milestone "1 month anniversary" is just fucking wrong and reeks of ESL. half-anniversary is correct though to be fair.

No in high school it was very common because well... High school romances don't last forever usually so you want to celebrate you've beaten the odds even if it is only 3 or 6 months. I kinda see the same logic with gacha games. Highly unlikely you'll hold an audience forever so celebrate 1/2 year anniversaries. Yes it's all for money but I certainly do appreciate it for the games I play. Also hololive celebrates random subscriber achievements that mean something to the talent which nobody every really finds odd. So out of the many things to dunk on nijisanji this is not one of them.

This is a good norm for gachas actually. They typically have big events and like Nikke gave you 100 free rolls for their 1.5 year anniversary.

Vtuber half-anniversaries are only there to chisel money out of you though so I'm not a fan.

It’s something that Hololive does too, but that’s usually just a collab with some associated merch. NijiEN is notorious for trying to skin the sheep instead of shearing it, milking their milestone celebrations with multiple streams to the point where for a while it became the majority of their content.
