If you’re playing it right now, here’s a general tip. You don’t have to gimp, you can just force bad recoveries by timing ledgehog + the threat of rolling up well. Gimps are something that, afaik with the character designs, are going to be hard

I am curious what about wrastor is so good though. He was very overwhelming in the original because of the multiple jumps and avoiding whiff lag if he hit you, but that seems toned down in 2

He just feels so dangerous, like one hit and your ass is dragged to the blast zone, and you're in this extremely horrible position to be in. Plus his fall speed is awkward for combos, certain characters that rely on Uthrow to combo just can't do anything but tech chase him once they get a grab. It's not like Zetterburn or Maypul where even through their overwhelming offense and mobility, once you grab them, you can get a meaty punish.

Most of the characters seem at least good. Right now, I'm a bit concerned about Loxodont and Clairen, but maybe it's because I'm playing them. Loxodont does feel really overwhelming if he can get his game plan going, his jab is disgustingly good. But his recovery feels more exploitable than the rest of the cast, he has shockingly low kill power for a heavy, and of course he's slow and big which is obvious. Clairen, I just don't know. You really need your spacing game on point because she's really weak to CC otherwise. Besides that, her Marthitis feels worse in this game and her relative disjoint feels shorter and DI messes with her more compared to the first game. It feels like she's meant to rely on Marth style ledgetrapping and gimping, but sweetspotting the ledge feels so easy that it's hard for her to actually get kills. Also her new neutral B is fucking trash.

I haven't played a ton today, maybe about 3-4 hours. From what I can tell the Zetters are sorta trying, but most people in the beta actually aren't tryhards. I played one guy that was a tryhard and Ranno was his worst character by far, Wrastor was the absolute worst to deal with and he mostly played Zetterburn. Kragg, I haven't seen a single one yet.

I mean he won one of the big pre-release tourneys, so I dunno. The only major nerf I can think of is that he's gigantic now, but besides that I'm not sure. I only played about 6 people today, it's just that I got a long session out of a couple of them. He's probably fine though. I played Clairen in 1, I've been experimenting with the new characters too because they seemed interesting, Loxodont is pretty fun actually. I'm not a player with fast fingers so even though I know some of the tech, I don't know much of what changed with most of the older characters.

I have the distinction of being a sword autist so I almost always play sword characters. I mean I play Roy in every Smash game he's in. Loxodont feels kinda like a weird hybrid of Ganon, Ike and Dedede, outside of the kill power oddly enough. First game, I also played Clairen but really liked Hodan too, he was a very inventive character.

She lost her restand combos she's had since day 1 but in return her zoning game got buffed. The problem seemed to be moreso that Ina's mobility is probably the weakest in the roster when it comes to dealing with zoning and her only anti projectile option is 4M. Still, it's an interesting watch because Atkins held out the best he caould. 4:25:25 in the same tourney vod.

I actually redownloaded this stupid game after talking about it the other day. It's been fun to come back to it after learning traditional fighters.

But yeah, it's frustrating. Slippi Bronze is probably like SF6 Plat. If you're learning from scratch, you def need to spend a good ~10 hrs getting comfortable with dashdancing and wavedashing. I remember doing this on the CRT in the common room back in undergrad; just wavedashing back and forth across FD. At least you guys have better training tools nowadays.

I understand the reasoning though: they wanted a lot of idols being playable in some fashion, which the collabs allow for, but not make it so chaotic that it becomes impossible to balance them. So they end up sort of all doing similar things as a result.
