The alternative is to risk having a meltdown on stream like what Vivi went through a few days ago, and what Pomu went through last May. Enna is at or dangerously close to the limits of her mental endurance; they all are, and some of them (like Vivi) may have already exceeded their limits.
The end is near, and they all know it. And they are powerless to prevent or even delay the inevitable, and they all know this as well. The lot of them are doing what they can to avoid looking at the falling grains of sand; but human nature being what it is, they can't help but fancy a peek every now and then.
