The real charm is being able to interact with a character rather than a person. VTubing allows for a person and their actions to be received differently. Take Kizuna Ai for example, if there was no avatar and it was just a 30yo Japanese woman jumping around excitedly and acting cute, it'd be a bit much right? At the very least you probably wouldn't be comfortable displaying your interest in her videos, would you?

But all that changes when they become a 'character'. I don't want to, nor would I feel comfortable, engaging with any flesh streamers the way I do with vtubers. I wouldn't look up lewd art, I wouldn't browse general threads dedicated to them, I wouldn't buy their merch, and I definitely wouldn't go into their chats and shamelessly say shit like "Sooo cute!!!" "I love this nerd!" "Woah that was kinda sexy sounding"

That's also why there's always such a knee jerk reaction whenever a chuuba re-persons themselves. Kson going flesh, Cali's sheer existence, etc. If I wanted to watch a person stream, I'd go to Twitch. I watch vtubers so that I can watch a character stream.

Probably the one thing I wish more vtubers did was make edited videos rather than streaming. And I don't mean edited streams either. Interacting with made-up personas has never been unique to vtubing, and precedes it to the start of the internet what with rantsonas, pngtubers, NND voiceroids and even messageboard users rping with their avatars on Gaia.
It took the jump to a living breathing anime girl who can almost viscerally hold your hand for people's brains to go "yes this is truly virtual".
When everyone downgraded to talking live2d bobbleheads on immovable bodies that crucial element is lost, and what you have left is a more niche audience who has to suspend their disbelief for the virtual content to work.
Even the OG frame animated characters on YT and NND were far better than any live2d puppet for creative kayfabe sketches.

if you google for atcoder (very popular japanese competitive programming contest) vtuber, you will find a ton of results. 90% of high level atcoder problems are combinatorics and number theory. the same vtubers also do a lot of CTF contests. all japanese of course.
But the problem is that they not that entertaining or informative. i would be okay watching a no commentary screencast of a 3000+ rated competitive programmer typing out a solution after reading a problem for 0.5 seconds. That is impressive even if i don't understand what's going on.
But there's no point in watching a <2000 rated competitor spend 2 hours and barely solve 2 problems and then explain it poorly afterwards. I'm here for the puzzles, not for their vtuber model. That's more for their privacy than anything and really we don't need animated facial expressions when talking about tech shit.

The biggest problem though is that in order to do informative streams like this consistently, they also need time to do research, prepare slides, etc. which either means shorter streams or less streams.
The most varied chuubas in this case that I know of would be people like Shiori, Rin Penrose, and Selen/Doki for the bigger ones. Mono Monet did some fun obscure shit by going through TempleOS recently, too, though I wouldn't call M4Mirai "big".

Fuwamoco is a fun twist on the video game formula though, especially since now they're able to stream from multiple perspectives and you can see Fuwawa's massive big sister energy in full force.
