It's a big deal because it's in the same player. If something comes up I can pause stream, leave for a couple of minutes, than come back and resume stream with it on like 1.5x or something and gradually catch back up easily. Twitch also has this weird thing where often the vod doesn't let you watch right up to the live segment until some time has passed. Idk why this is and it doesn't always happen but it can be annoying when you just miss something and want to watch it back. I know you can use the clip feature but I don't see the harm in making it simpler.

Twitch delivers streams in chunks so if something you want to look back at was at the beginning of a chunk then it won't be available to view in the VOD until that chunk is finished. I don't know how long the chunks are for sure but I'll just guess they're like 3-4 minutes long each or something.

Tbf it's the same for live streamers on youtube converting to videos. There are some that are really good at it who know how to make a good youtube video either separate from their streams or a highlight of their streams. And then there are those who are bad at it and don't know how to convert. I would argue it has nothing to do with platform in that case, but skillset. Heck as far as I know most Holo members don't even really convert well to youtube video views outside of music. It takes an entirely different skillset to make an edited video than live stream and a lot of people don't bother learning how to do both. Which considering how much money they make just from streaming I can't really blame them even if I do think it's a waste.

When I say a couple minutes it is also often I'm gone for like half an hour or something. It's nice to be able to just quickly skim through easily what I missed and catch up live. The problem is a few different things
1) the main audience is on a separate platform (this is a hurdle regardless of platform choice)
2) the content is recycled from what the main audience has already seen, which means low engagement as people don't often watch the same thing twice (example: Bao, Numi and Rain have all made videos exclusively for YouTube which do significantly better than their stream highlights)
3) YT is a fucking nightmare so trying to grow a separate audience on YouTube is more effort than it's honestly worth

Probably the best way to do it is by making unique content for the new platform and promoting it to your base on the main platform. Their attention turns into algorithmic boosts which spreads it to new audiences on the new platform.
But adding more content production to your schedule is more difficult than it might sound, and grappling with the ever-changing, enigmatic obstacle course that is the YT algorithm is basically a full-time job in and of itself.

I do think it's interesting how some of the people with the best youtube conversion like Monke probably get it from people who can't watch him live. There is definitely a benefit there, but I think the amount of streamers that applies to is limited. Still, she streams in a completely opposite timeslot from Coqui, Meat or Callie. Even having the audience overlap that they do, it's hard to imagine many viewers from one end of the day still being available for the other. And Olivia's CCV is often double Coqui or Meat's, if not higher. It's particularly impressive because she streams in the "dead zone" for CCV.
