The concept is fun. The talent is lacking. Those Macross 3d concerts on YouTube are a great example of what peak vtubing should look like. Anime should arrive to be anime. That fact is absolute.

Because vtubing has yet to reach anywhere near the height of its potential. Current vtubers are, for all intents and purposes, mostly rank amateurs. There's nothing wrong with treating them as such. You're not just competing with other streamers. You're competing with jpop, kpop, anime, manga and other more established anime characters' merch.

The one advantage vtubers have is that they're allowed to be self aware. Anime characters are usually an empty she'll to be filled by seiyuu and used however the IP owners wish. Vtubers just have to outcompete mindless corporate drones with heart and soul. But it's hard to do that with an ironic weeb streaming mentality. That's the weaknesses of.most vtubers. They haven't truly cast aside their human self and embraced the chuuni attitude of a self aware, genre savvy anime character.

True Vtubing combines improv and acting to not just hide behind an anime avatar but also bring it to life. This is vtubing's appeal. Regular anime characters can't be interacted with even if their seiyuu can be. By livestreaming as an anime character, vtubers can not only entertain in real time but also connect with fans on a level that tightly controlled corporate IP can't. The industry will only further evolve to embrace the style of living breathing anime characters interacting through the internet with consumers, and those who don't shape up will get shipped out. This is the macro view of vtubing that OP seems to lack. It's not just a hobby. This could unironically be the future of anime voice acting, with seiyuu tied down to voicing and streaming as one character at a time.

You faggots don't realize how early we are. Indie vtubing will eventually become even harder to gain traction in, much like indie comics and indie animations. The only thing that offsets it will be the far greater scale of interest in vtubing once corporations' catch on and start leveraging their IP. It's not guaranteed, but some pre-established character tubers are already starting to materialize.

Thinly veiled ennui if not disinterest in their gig coming off like a vapor from some of the HoloENs infects the community and people just silently leave. They won't say we were right, shit is too repetitive, or we were right the chemistry is shitty and ___ chuuba is actually annoying or lame etc. They just fuck off into the sunset.

So, what would regain our interest? New concepts, new types of interaction etc. However, it's passion too. This may involve constantly shitting on those who are dispassionate and there's no fucking hiding or denying when someone sounds bored or just like they're doing this just to do a gig. This is why the NijiENs have a lot of interest from here - they're new, fresh-faced and optimistic, they have a lot of passion and energy that HoloEN has simply drained out of. I'd say it's quite probable within a year or two we'd be able to perceive some of these NijiENs losing interest or having yabs eventually, but not today, not right now. I'd venture to say chuubas have a lifespan of a few years for most people, before the people behind that chuuba just can't bring the fire anymore. Hence a lot of Gen 0/1 is really inactive. Gen 2 has progressed to becoming inactive the past year. Gen 3 has started to show signs of cracks in Peko and Marine's comments, etc. This shit wears you down. Does it have to? Or are they just tired of the meta wearing them down over time, and themselves unsatisfied with its limits? Would people like Haachama have a lot more energy to them if Cover didn't dash their projects, etc.

The point was that Japan has freedom of expression while China doesn't, while America is undergoing a maoist cultural revolution while south of the border those revolutionaries get disappeared. Jokes die faster simply due to how easy it is to spread that shit everywhere. And before anyone jumps on me for "muh sekrit club" I'm simply pointing out an observation not pining for the "good old days" because things were shitty back then too but in a different way.

This said I think NijiEN has the potential to last quite a bit longer simply because the v-tubers/livers/whatever you want to call them seem to have a better support network and seem to genuinely enjoy working with each other.

When's the last time anyone in HoloEN jumped on a random discord call and just joined them impromptu just to shoot the shit? Ame supposedly watches everyone else's streams but rarely interacts with her genmates. Mori, Kiara, and Gura already hinted at the fact that they rarely interact off stream with each other.

I don't believe HoloEN's lack of interaction is even out of disinterest. Time-zone difference aside I just think all of them just have a lot going around outside of streaming that their just too busy to talk to each other.

I also have a lot of fun listening to Mel doing her usual streams of consciousness.
and yes, I can enjoy Vtubers as a non-weeb. It's just another form of streaming and one that is better IMO than watching a facecam.

The Enger Drahon prep stream), or the "Ina is oversleeping" stream Kiara did a la Fubuki where she invited Watson. There have been multiple aside from that, like the time Gura brought over Ina to advertise Lightning McQueen recently
