Phase connect are pretty promising from what I've seen, their EN talents are maybe a little behind Tsunderia in size despite only being around for a month, and that'd partly be from the amount of money they were throwing at advertising in the lead-up to debuts.
Worth noting they've got an EN/JP split, though some of the EN talents speak no Japanese and get by on deepl where necessary so there's seemingly no hard requirements there. Hard to know if they'll keep this up for gen 2, the JP side isn't doing terribly but they're still a fair bit behind the ENs.
Seem to have a decent amount of creative freedom, the rabbit kind of pushes the boundaries for vtubing in general and the amount of flak she's caught from management seems mild comparatively so I doubt most people would run into any issues there.

Prod Kawaii's application form is kind of a pain for a small company. Feels a lot less accessible because they're looking for very specific people. On top of that they don't want to take risks with character ideas so they have pre-prepared designs that are just human.

I started vtubing a couple of weeks ago while still working full time, under no illusions I'll ever make enough to leave it either. It's just because I enjoy it. Strraming has a way faster feedback loop than video creation so it's easier to get motivated over it. I made like a 2 minute meme clip from one of my streams and it took about as long to put together as the stream itself. The discord group? Everything. It's a group of people with no idea what they're doing. At least Isekai Inc tried to get their affairs in order before failing to launch.

Vstars just wants to jump into it but they have nothing prepared and they could barely answer any questions professionally on the AMA. One of them even kept burping into the mic during it. Most of the important questions were met with "that's a good question uhhhh we'll look into it".

My guess is they pick their best suck-up applicants that won't complain because "I'm in a group!", get a bunch of inexperienced fans to be managers, drama ensues from disorganisation and internal clashes, and it all falls apart in a few months.

Relevant Vstars info for anyone who can't be assed looking for it.
https://twitter.com/vstars_group/status/1421455604812447751
>Please keep in mind that VStars is not currently offering financial assistance or hardware for our streamers - you are ultimately responsible for your own equipment and content creation
>However, please keep in mind that VStars is not currently a monetized company, and as such, will not be providing Live2D models or rigs for our talent. We also do not require our selected talent to take on a role / persona that VStars has created; you will apply with your own vtubing persona, and if accepted, we will be promoting your own channel and content.
>While VStars is a group - in other words, not for profit - we do not plan to have our artists or talent sign contracts. We are not making money from you or your content; we are simply here to help support and promote one another! When VStars becomes a full-fledged company, we do plan to require contracts for our partnered artists and talent. When that time comes, our current generation(s) of talent and our featured artists will be the first we negotiate with about terms, expectations, and perks. At that time, you can choose to decline and graduate, or to accept and become a full partner after we draft a contract.
Tldr:
>You don't get paid and need to have your own model/setup. You're basically just joining a group while doing your own thing.
>They won't make you sign a contract and give them anything yet but probably will in a few months if you want to stay in the group.
The way I see it they're just trying to get vtubers with a pre-established fanbase to sign up so that they can start charging them for being part of a group in a few months. Realistically if you're new there shouldn't be any downside to applying for this and then just leaving after you've gotten the potential initial interest popularity from being part of a new agency and they start asking for contracts.
Though if they do end up asking you to sign a contract I'd recommend against it as they're basically giving you nothing for it.

I work full time (9-5, M-F), and have two scheduled streams a week. Also guerrilla streams probably 1 time a week on average. Hit affiliate on 6 weeks (to the day!)

I don't think I could have done it if I wasn't still WfH - I did a lot of networking reps during downtime on work; and a lot of prep (twitter announcement posts, getting OBS set up, watching tutorials, etc), which I wouldn't be able to do at the office.

Now I'm set up, I think I should be able to keep going though. I've no expectation of hitting partner (I'm 30 y/o, male, and not an artist).

The editing side is lacking - I'm pretty much just uploading VODs and clips to YT. But I'm trying to learn something new each week, whether it's a trick in GIMP for making the posters, or setting up transitions/hotkeys in OBS. I'm looking to learn at some point, but I'm currently a pngTuber, working on pretty slow games, with a relatively small audience, so there's very little I can actually edit into anything decent - it's just my logorrhea for five hours.

But I'm doing more prepwork, watching chuubas with similar characters to see what they do I can learn from and the like.

I don't think the bar for EN and JP are anywhere near one another. The EN one for both Holo and Niji feels so much higher that it's ridiculous. Look at the complete rando failed nobody VAs and radio show girls they pick for JP groups vs someone like Gura (on the higher end) and Ame (on the lower end still with 200 average viewers). I think Fina is the one REAL exception but I also think she's shown her skill despite never actually debuting and I really don't feel some random 6 week vtuber has any shot. The people who are picked will just be existing chuubas with lots of experience and probably a decent following just like every other time.

depends on the group
generally the benefits are you grow as a group, if you're a smaller vtuber its a net benefit.
for example look at PRISM, the growth of Luto and Shiki has brought all of them into the 10k+ range when normally they'd never have gotten there on their own. Or for a more extreme example look at hololive and nijisanji, solely by being in the group new members are immediately shot to 100k subs before they even debut.
plus you get the tribalfags who'll watch everyone just to say they watch everyone in the group.

also offloads the work of PR interacting with other companies and vtubers by having the company do it for you, frees up more time to let you stream. and they'll handle things like merch and stuff which you likely wouldn't have handled if you were solo.

If you can work it indie and you get big alone, its fine to do as is. But most people want to offload this stuff without having to pay out of pocket, and the popularity boost you get just from being in the same group as more popular people is hard to pass up. And groups will be willing to take a less 'popular' member because the variety it brings to the group is a net benefit as well.

No, it's impossible to tell because of how many people likely wouldn't admit it. I would say it's probably LESS than one would imagine due to how much the application asks you to invest into it.
>Do you think the male auditions had more or less applicants than the female ones?
Less, but not dramatically so. And I would say that's because Hololive is more prominently known in the west than nijisanji, and so there are less male vtubers in the public view, which makes it seem less viable to western men to vtube instead of regularly stream. What's the deal with skebs? I don't get why so many chuubas on twitchter are so obsessed with them? It's cheapish pictures, which is kinda nice, but you can't use them on your promo materials or anything, right?

Do you need to be a certain size, so your fans retweet them? Or can you re-use the skeb in other files?

my oshi had one delivered as a catgirl, wearing single-toe socked stockings. It's her third or fourth one with nice feet. I knew I picked correctly

Japanese artists charge much less than western ones, so cheap art. But also it gives you social media content, and since you can't really take photos of youself like normal entertainers or streamers, the art takes its place.

There's loads of discords, but they're of limited help if you're not starting from anything. They're full of try-hards and NGMIs, asking basic questions and shitting it all up.

Start by watching streamers who've made it. See what they do. Then watch a few shitty 2-view hoodietubers, see where they're shit.

Then just go live with your own avatar, stream for a few hours, see how you feel about it. Do some more streams, learn more as you go, and start putting it together more and more.

One piece of advice I was given I ignored it was start with a burner account. Then, when you inevitably fuck it up, you can abandon it and just re-start on a primary.

i'm part of a few discords like the Vstars one and the ENVtubers one, plus a couple from reddit's list https://pastebin.com/nRayvuVP but they're all shit. there's really nothing you can learn from them and it becomes very apparent that none of the people there are actually vtubers, they're just larping as one and looking to be part of a community discussion. actual vtubers are out there doing their reps, not just hanging out in discord.

Thank you! I've got one planned for Saturday, adding a ton more songs to the list. So any recommendations you've got, any genre, would be much appreciated. I'm going to add some classic anime songs, stuff from games, but also lots of boomer rock and oldies. Old jazz standards (Beyond the Sea, Can't Take My Eyes Off You) were really popular last time, so I'll be doing more like that, too. One anon recommended adding Disney stuff, and that's a great idea. So any recommendations, no matter how outside the box, are much appreciated!
