The "Spirit Combo" for example gives you no bouncing and some hyper armor, so you can end up spamming it whenever you have the chance and not realize most other weapons do have to try not to get hit + no hit monster parts that bounce, or sharpen to avoid bouncing.

Well also having a shield is objectively pointless in all of monhun rise, so that kind of hurts a few weapons. To be more specifically, you had cool tools like parry but all other melee weapons had counters that did 6 trillion damage with full invincibility and made the entire block system a meme.

In world I could literally save my friends from fatalis breath, in rise I do (somehow) even lower damage than a fucking hunting horn while being slow as balls while half the melee weapons get to larp as devil may cry characters

Switch Axe was so fucking insane in Rise that I didn't want to use anything else. Rapid Morph made it so goddamn fun to use, it became a perfect weapon.

Guard dash/leaping thrust spam gives you decent elemental dps while allowing you to be behind a shield when you need to be, so you can always be hyper aggressive. And you can close the distance using sheathing retreat towards the enemy. I tried to go back to world lance, but I felt so much weaker.
