Because of culture vultures like OP pic related would be my guess. Gura has enough charisma and whimsicality to shut down venti types from starting a bandwagon witch hunt and appeal to normies as a cute mascot creature. There are tons of normies, for instance, who freak out about and try to cancel artists who make Gura art, but they view her and hololive as "le heckin cute gremlin creature must protecc" and any direct attacks against her like Venti's come off as harassing a cute animal or something to them. Add a bunch more and that loses the shield of normies enacting plausible deniability.
