I was at OffKai. Noomi was streaming in and the text staff at the con failed to start her backing track. So she basically sang a cappella to a large crowd that she couldn’t see, which has to be a nightmare. OffKai rejected 3 AM. Source: Coqui. That was enough for me to not go this year even though I can get there on BART. I spent a whole Saturday there and was pretty bored. The things that were interesting were full, and technically it was a disaster.

Sure, they might expand their guest more within the month but that's a really short time, especially when they expect people to make travel plan to attend the con.

The thing is that Offkai is still very much an enthusiast's con - not just the organizers and panelists, but the attendees themselves may very well be independent creators themselves (and some might be going specifically for the purpose to farm content to begin with). The demographics for Offkai aren't quite as general consumer-focused (especially aggravated by how spread-out the US is as well), so it's understandable that they might not want to deal with that controversy at the moment. That's the bigger reason why you've seen some deflation in corpo representation this year more than any other - the first year showed it could happen, the second year had hype, but how much of the attendee base were the actual fanbase that the corpos are looking for?

Offkai's provides some visibility but the regular anime con circuit is still going to be a bigger fish - and Niji staying out this year is probably a wiser decision for both; it avoids needlessly antagonizing the small creator community.

That was one of the few times I've seen Mouse actually angry at something/someone she's in contact with, she was still civil and didn't raise her voice but she was so upset that they were making people wait that long for the concert among other things, and she was furious for Numi. She'd also been live (as in awake and streaming) for sixteen hours when she was supposed to go on and then she ended up singing at the eighteen hours live mark, still pulled off a great And I Am Telling You at the end but she was obviously exhausted after the performance. Personally I wouldn't go to Offkai after watching how poorly they set things up and didn't communicate with all the talents.
