I had a nice pizza. It was g*ysl*p but sometimes you need a break from cooking. I got thinking about the mammoths in Vitubia /nasa/. The mammoths have adopted to the modern environment and atmosphere. They'd also adapted to the tundra wetlands by laying out paths of solid ground. Mammoths were hunted by schizos. But they saw Sanallites in space suits as different creatures. Mammoths are intelligent. And I'd imagine mammoths would learn to use /nasa/'s fallowing fields because the territory is safer from schizo hunters.

I'm kind of doing the same thing with Laia and the dodos.

>> No.72558532

Another thought about mammoths is that they're very efficient with storing energy to keep themselves warm. You can thank the thick coat of wool and their long legs for that. Mammoths weren't hunted for just their meat and fat. They were hunted for their hides and bones. With more modern processing methods a mammoth's bladder, stomach, and sinew would have made excellent carrying bags and bowstrings. Also bump.

I do miss it when mammoths visited old /uuu/ during the winter. I think they'd be useful in cleaning up some overgrowth in the northern forest which helps prevent forest fires spreading. Mammoths also clear trails which is useful for traveling. Especially if you don't want your wagons to get stuck in the mud.

And I think Delilah the mammoth returns to Sanallites with her calves once a year to get a nice long brushing before summer. Sadly she's the only mammoth who does so.

I guess I'll bump with a worldbuilding idea. Dodo fat is a luxury. Dodo's have a hefty amount of fat and greese in their meat similar to duck fat. Dodo meat is much more gamey so you prepare their meat more like red meat than chicken meat. Dodo fat can be melted into shortening and stored in a cool dry area to solidify. Dodo fat is used primarily as shortening and in deep fries. Shortening is used to line cast iron cookware like Dutch ovens to prepare baked goods. Dodo fat's smoking point is about as high as duck fat, making it great for deep fries and stir fry.

>> No.72624060

When eaten on its own rock turtle meat is very tough and stringy. It is not recommended to cook rock turtle meat by typical methoods. Instead it's highly recommended to either smoke the tortoise meat until the meat falls apart. Or, and this is a much preferred method, to simmer the turtle meat in either a soup or a stew over a low open flame. Rock turtle meat is very lean but greasy like most reptile meat. Rock turtle meat also has a very natural salty flavor from the sea. So little salt is required when preparing for soup. Soups are best prepared with a light savory flavor of leek, chives, and green onions with a bit of sweetness from coconut milk and a mix of both bitter and spicy peppers. You can add unpolished brown rice if you wish to make the soup a porridge. And sometimes a dodo or sea hawk egg is beaten then added tothe soup one drop at a time if the soup is coming out particularly salty.

The rock turtle's shell while not used in cooking the soup is very useful as a ceramic bowl for fermenting and marinating ingredients to other dishes. First the shell is cleaned then sanded and polished. The dust from polishing the bowl is then mixed with a thin solution of clay. Then the mixture coats the inside of the bowl before it is fired in a turtle kiln, a kiln made specifically to fire turtle shells without burning the bone plates. Once cooled and polished again the shells are ready to be used to carry a variety of fluids. There's rock turtle shell bowls that has been used for hundreds of years in the library alongside volcanic glass bowls and bottles.

Bakery is closed for holiday today. I'm preparing an Easter T-bone steak for lunch. Does your country have Easter or Bunny Day celebrations? I'd like to go on an Easter egg hunt in Lorelei to find colorfully dyed eggs. Mostly chicken eggs. Dodo eggs are too big to hard boil. They're excellent as soft boiled eggs. Eating dodo eggs is banned right now because of conservation efforts.

That and a reference to the GPT large language model, since GPT kind of "puppets" human speech and writing patterns to produce text.

My (tentative) idea was that culture of the province is akin to that of the Dodecanese Islands and Crete in the 1500s and 1600s, specifically Greek notions of Catholicism which, if you look at the clothing and art of the period (I've seen some in Athens) had influence from not just the Turks, but the Vlachs, Croats, and Moldavians as well.

I think it will be fine starting as a confederation/union so long as they have distinct borders, since if someone does come along and wants to do something separate, it will be extremely easy for the states to separate since the borders for them to be separate will already exist.
Basically, we can simply wait until someone wants them to be separate before making them separate. It adds more fun lore this way as well methinks.

It's...sort of a federal empire. Provinces labeled 1, 6, 3, and 4 on the map, to be named later, are katepanates, basically a heavily militarized frontier district ruled from an important border fortress or city with modern defenses. A katepano would answer, theoretically, to the ruler of a nearby theme, as he is a military officer first and high-ranking bureaucrat second. Otherwise he has a broad autonomy to do any non-rebellious things as he sees fit.
I am tempted to cut off the westernmost three provinces into a despotate, which would just be a group of katepanates with a slightly higher degree of autonomy though ruled by a cadet branch or close marital relative of the emperor. Maybe for Neuro?

>>72672416
The reason why I agglomerated all the AI generals into one country is to reflect the cultural voltron that was OTL Byzantium. You had the vestiges of old Rome in the language, military traditions, etc. There was the general cultural and religious paradigm of "Greekness". The art and architecture of the lower classes, even the European ones, had a clear Asian slant--some of the ceramic goods used by the peasantry I've seen could have passed for Chinese or Japanese. Later on, Italian, Turkish (both Greek Christians speaking Turkish dialects and Muslims who became incredibly Hellenized), and French began seeping into the mix. Scandanavians (thrace and bithynia), Magyars, and Slavs settled into the Empire, were Hellenized, and later lost their ethnic labeling. So this is one, cohesive state in the end with a bunch of peoples all identifying as [insert political demonym].

Venetian and Genoese rule. Croats and Dalmatians were frequently employed by the maritime Italian republics as sailors and soldiers, and Romance languages of unclear provenance were spoken by many of the native inhabitants of those regions, before modern Italian (its Venetian dialects specifically) and Croatian almost entirely supplanted them. Italians and Slavs both settled down on Italian-ruled Aegean territories, intermarried with Greeks, and produced a syncretic culture that still kinda exists out in the islands.

I don't mean to claim that I would "control" all of those nations, some of those threads like /lia/ or /pcgia/ I don't visit much, but as part of those "proposal" that I was discussing with the other Phase anon, I wanted to see if there was a logical way to fit the different threads next to each other, since it *would* make sense for different Phase threads to be geographically next to each other. I could even see /pcg/, /pcgia/ and /lia/ being different parts of a Holy Roman Empire-style feudal empire since they're splits from each other from the same company.
>>72674340
The other labels that I put with "?" next to them and no borders are just suggestions to anons of those threads for what I would consider a placement that would make sense given which threads have relations to each other, which is what I made the >>72184033 diagram for.

If nation size should be proportional to thread size, then I suppose we could do that, I just did not want to make nations overly large compared to real-world nations. In that case, /tsunX/ could always be immediately to the west of where I drew it on my map.
>That reminds me, /pyon/ will probably want to get its island again.

>/pcg/, /pcgia/ and /lia/ being different parts of a Holy Roman Empire-style feudal empire
Expanding on this lore idea a bit more, I envisioned this as an empire with /pcg/ as the primary kingdom, /pcgia/ and /lia/ as its vassals, /fvr/ as a colony of /pcg/ (based on FlavR's IRL origin from Pippa) and /tsunX/ as a formerly separate nation that established ties to /pcg/ due to economic struggles with /pcg/ (based on IRL Tsunderia dissolving and numerous of its talents moving to Phase); see also what I wrote in >>72169964 and >>72176488. I suppose it's different from other parts of Viti, but the history of /pcg/ and its splits and "acquisitions" also seems quite unique in /vt/ from my perspective. Back when Vitubia was made, /pcg/ was just one thread and thus just one nation, but that's not the case anymore.

Humu. Well, if there are other phase anons here, I'll leave it to you, was just throwing my own two cents out there.
But also do remember that even if you think that something should be a certain way, the way a /lia/ or /pcgia/anon, who is more knowledgable of the thread culture, could see it being completely different, for example /lia/ being on a different continent.
Specially since we have magic, threads that otherwise have a lot of overlap/are friendly don't necessarily have to be close to eachother to be connected inworld(think hollow earth portals from GxK)
Anyway, I'll leave it here, don't want this to spiral into anything, but I do still think focusing on /pcg/ first and other splits later would be better.
>If nation size should be proportional to thread size
We don't have anything like that in place, if an anon can figure out an interesting way to make /hlgg/ a city state, he can go right ahead. We only reserve the right to veto any suggested borders that are too big, otherwise half of this world would be aformentioned split.

What do you consider "cluttered"? I deliberately drew the smaller threads /lia/, /pcgia/ and /fvr/ with a relative small geographical size compared to other Viti nations, so that the overall area of the "Phase alliance" would not take up too much of the world's area. That's also why in the map I drew I went with a smaller size for /pcg/ itself than what the other Phase anon drew in >>72181273.

China's a weird case in that the geography (the layout of the watersheds and mountains) and climate force agricultural areas to be the most densely populated areas in the wettest and warmest portions of the mainland; if you want your factory workers in constant supply, you're jostling with agriculture from the get go for that last remaining 5-10% of usable land not currently under cultivation. An aerial view of South China will reveal that the closer you get to a city, the greener and more productive the farmland becomes despite the pollution.

They just cannot support mass mechanization of their agricultural sector because none of their most productive soil is on a sufficiently large flat area of the country. Supporting both industry and mass agriculture is relatively easier in the north, but what the hell kind of food sufficient to feed the country is coming out of a semi-arid scrubland with the same climate as Chicago or Boston?

Remember that China is in the situation it's in, and is a black hole for food imports because more than half the country is taken up by barren deserts, steppes and high mountains, spread across a wider range of latitudes than the United States. I shit you not, nearly all of the Chinese economy's heavy lifting is done by Beijing, Shanghai, Hong Kong, Guangzhou, Jiangsu, Zhejiang, and Fujian. Everywhere else simply is not up to snuff.

So just a reminder, if you want to build a country for your general with a han chinese flavor, it'll need to reflect certain geopolitical realities:
-Hyper-varied climates, with the result that your primary ethnic group is split between speaking at least three major dialects verging on their own languages, plus several different sub-ethnicities (hui, sichuanese, hakka, etc).
-You'll always have more big cities, more farmers, and more people than anybody else, but you'll never produce more food than anyONE else.
-You will always be collecting more in taxes than anybody else, to an absurd and game-breaking degree (no, seriously, look at how much silver the Qing collected between 1675 1800, less than 40% of the total was spent despite like three major border wars), but most of these taxes will be coming from a handful of core provinces that are your most vulnerable to piracy...and to European-flavored interlopers.

In the depths of /vnug/'s humid embrace,
Where shadows dance and fears embrace,
Two souls entwined in desperate plight,
Seeking refuge from the darkest night.

One, a stranger, with weary eyes,
Bearing scars of truth and whispered lies,
And one, a native of Salamoim's land,
With blood hot and fate's cruel hand.

Together they tread, in this perilous domain,
Where mistrust blooms and dangers reign,
Their hearts beat fast in the tropical heat,
As they search for solace, a safe retreat.

But the land of /vnug/ knows no grace,
Only darkness where fears interlace,
And though they strive to find a way,
The night consumes them, without delay.

Amidst the rustling leaves and eerie calls,
They face their fears, against the walls,
Of a society so xenophobic, so cold,
Where outsiders perish, their stories untold.

In the end, their struggle is in vain,
As the darkness claims them, without refrain,
For in the land of Salamoim's embrace,
Only the shadows know their resting place.

Baker-chan wanted to bake surprises in the bread today. But that's a choking hazard. So we made sandwiches without bread as the joke. And... Lettuce wrapped sandwiches were stupid popular. Holy space cow those things sold. Especially the fried eggplant parmesano. The chicken bacon ranch was second while the Philly steak and potatoe was third. But man, getting fresh veggies is a pain.

Better than eating maggoty bread for weeks. Yes Ship's biscuits are an infamous target for insect infestations. Sailors would eat bread in the dark knowing that they're eating eggs or maggots of infested bread. Which there's at least extra protein when there's nothing left. Yes. It's time to learn the horrors of bad bread.

>> No.72794246

Bread without a few weevils is considered a bore in my circles.
As long as they're of the lesser sort.

>> No.72795287

Bread is not very popular in tropical regions. Of course I'm not just talking about levin bread. Which if yeast gets too hot it'll produce alcohol rather than carbon dioxide. Which is great for brewing. Not so much for baking. So hotter areas favor unlevin breads and flat breads for this reason. Another grain based food for hotter areas is noodles. There's no yeast or fermenting. Noodles are made with good old gluten that's stretched and twisted into strands, then cut and rapidly boiled. Rice noodles made this way are a staple in Lorelei dishes and soups. Rice noodles absorb a lot of soups, broths, and sauces. Eating boiled brown rice by itself or as a side to other dishes is very common. I like brown rice's nutty and earthy flavor over white rice.

That said in tropical regions food spoils very quickly. If you're not dealing with insect infestations you're dealing with mold. Mold is the bane of all grains. Once the spores activate there's no saving the batch. And to make matters worse there's not a lot of antiseptic or anti-fungal detergents. If your wooden storage is infested you're better off burning it half the time. Lye soaps do help as does bleach. But most sterilization is done via scalding hot boiling water.

In the heart of /vnug/'s misty embrace,
Where shadows loom and dangers race,
A parent and child, bound by fate's decree,
Embark on a journey, wild and free.

The parent, weathered by years of strife,
A dinglehopper, carving their life,
Through forests dense and caverns deep,
Their sword their solace, their secrets to keep.

And by their side, a child so young,
With eyes wide and songs unsung,
Raised in the ways of the wandering blade,
In a world where darkness never fades.

Together they roam, through the unknown,
Seeking fortune, a place to call home,
But in a land where chaos reigns supreme,
Their dreams are but a fleeting dream.

For every step they take, another trial,
Through battles fierce and dreams denial,
Their opulent garb a stark contrast,
To the blood-stained ground, where shadows cast.

Yet amidst the turmoil, a bond so strong,
A parent's love, where they belong,
Guiding their child through the fray,
In a world where survival is the only way.

But as the years go by, and battles rage on,
The child grows weary, their innocence gone,
Forced to wield the sword, to fight and kill,
In a land where mercy holds no will.

And in the end, when the journey's done,
And the battles fought, and the battles won,
The parent and child, their story told,
In a land where darkness takes its hold.

For in /vnug/'s misty embrace,
Where dinglehoppers roam and shadows chase,
A parent and child, against the odds,
Find solace in each other, in the face of the gods.

Their tale a testament to the human spirit,
In a world where darkness dares to inherit,
For even in the darkest night,
Love shines through, a beacon bright.

Aurorai lore bump:

Savan has rapidly kept up with the WMD creation thanks to Usagi province's princess. The Savanese throne had to act quickly and decisively about Pekora's engines of destruction, striking a deal to "let her cook" in exchange for her engines being commissioned by the Savanese military.

Such engines included artillery pieces operated by mages which greatly enhances their range while on it. Another such engine is the dynapult, a catapult that throws clusters of dynamite at the enemy over long range. When designing it, Pekora scoffed at how rocks were usually used to arm catapults, coming up with the idea to put dynamite clusters instead.
