IP acquisition is a necessary practice, from a bureaucracy standpoint. If they own the rights to the character and model, they can do a lot of backend logistics without having the talent taking part in every decision that involves their IP (think merch deals, sponsor negotiations, or commissions). Look at it from their point of view: if the talent is only working a few hours for streaming, making content, editing, etc, you'd need to modify the contract to basically force them to participate in the administration of their own character. It's a non starter, and things would move glacially as it did with Kawa. If they added a provision for them to keep their model, it would be amazing, but then they lose all leverage if the contract is broken early, leaving them with an empty bag and wasted investment. You might argue that if it happens, they might deserve it, but you have to keep in mind that everyone has different values and boundaries when it comes to responsibilities and worker-employer relationships, and breaking a contract can happen at any time for any reason. That's why models are used as collateral, if a talent wants to break contract before a certain time period, they essentially have to pay a fee to pay for the lost assets. Of course, everyone hates this because black corpos abuse talents and abuse this leverage out of pettiness or for their own gain, which is why it's always a bad idea to let them borrow your IP, even if it's only for a year or two.

I do agree though, for all their language, there does seem to be a contradiction: they are a corpo and corpos exist to generate profit. I assume what they mean is that they won't skimp out on expenditures to save a bit of money.
