Maybe because I got into flesh streamers first and then vtubers second but it's kinda baffling to tune into a gaming stream where the streamer is expected to try their hardest to look and act moe~ and attractive at all times so that you can fall in love with them. If I wanted to gawk at anime women I find attractive moving around the screen for extended periods of time, I'd play one of those anime girl collect-a-thon mobile games. Male vtubers, or at least the ones in StarsEN, tend to act more like normal streamers, which is more appealing to me.
