70658109 No.70658109 [Reply] [Original]

It's over for Twitchtubers. YouTube actually figured out how to place the chatbox right next to the stream. What advantage is there to stream on Twitch now? Twitch's infrastructure is way worse. The performance of the website is trash. Twitch is still struggling to turn a profit and rolling out dumb money-making schemes that everyone hates every other month. And Twitch has no Koreans.

Discoverability.
Finding new streamers on Youtube is nearly impossible without manual search.
While on Twitch, you get recommended streams and can browse streaming categories.
>What about Youtube though?
I just found out about the Youtube Live tab today. Every game was blended into "Gaming". It's really bad. No Vtubers in sight despite it being almost everything I watch. I'm pretty sure most people don't even know that tab exists considering you have to scroll down past your Subscriptions list to even see it.

I also hate the way youtube shadowbans you from chat over innocuous things from an unknown list of triggers. Twitch is customizable on censoring and if a chuuba does have it turned on it at least it lets you know instead of needing to just notice your message doesn’t show up in the on stream chat log.
For example if they are playing a game with bombs in it? You better not say the B word or you’ll be shadowbanned on youtube.

YouTube is rolling out a new feature where the chat window is fixed to the right of the screen even when not in theater mode. The old chat was nested in the page, but the new one is fixed to the screen even when you scroll down, similar to how Twitch does it. You probably don't see it because you weren't picked for the rolling update lottery. A lot of times now, YouTube will gradually release an update to random people just in case it breaks the website.

What the hell are you talking about? I can watch a dozen twitch streams at the same time if I want, but a single 4view youtube chat turns my PC into a heater and leaks memory over time. Even on Chrome, without the scummy artificial slowdowns they build in for other browsers. The amount of server-side outages is about the same, if not more.

to be fair youtube used to not even be an option, and was much worse too when it first started out. some thus had no option but twitch, so stayed there. its then a cascade effect where many see everyone on twitch, so think twitch is the better option.
simultcasting is starting to be a bit more common, but im guessing it has some issues considering no one does it regularly.

Simply put, it's the dominant streaming website.
People stream on Twitch because that is where people stream (who aren't corpo vtubers).

There are a lot of things though, including more community and interactivity features, better third-party extensions/customizability, integration features with lots of different games, better discoverability.
There are also some things that people don't want to deal with on YT like the overactive copyright bots, who will literally just kill the stream and force you to start a new one, the demonetization minefield, the site flagging your channel based on what you do more (videos/shorts/streams) which prioritizes one thing and neuters the others in the algorithm.

There is over a decade's worth of videos and posts from YouTubers complaining about an endless stream of problems and frustrations with YouTube's systems. Many of them have never been fixed, or only gotten worse. "Why don't they use YouTube?" honestly shouldn't even be a question. It's a fucking nightmare.
I have to imagine people here just... didn't watch a lot of YouTube before vtubers? And corpos aren't gonna say shit, especially when all that gets handled by staff and not them personally.
