It is not a really a problem for a tech CEO to hire some people he knew from college, or for Vtubers to vouch for friends during recruitment. It IS very much a problem when that turns into special treatment/privileges, poor leadership, fraud, and an inability to pull good people from outside the network.

Scale of the business comes into play when doing nepo hires. My local pub employs their daughter as a barmaid part time. That's legit nepohire but it doesn't matter because it's a small business of 6 people. Niji isn't a small business. It's a billion dollar company listed on a stock exchange. Where nepo hiring goes bad is demonstrated by Niji. Everyone is linked to one key figure, then that key figure is involved in at the very least translating documents (if not more including direct authority over other talents), like contracts, like sponsorship deals involving other talents. That's a massive conflict of interest.
Phase can get away with it because you can't seriously expect a dude who just wants to play LoL with him, with $50K budget to have a serious recruiting campaign. Startups will always have nepo hires. Then look at the nepo hiring practices of Phase - they're spread across 4-5 influential figures including Sakana, none of which hold any authority over the other talents other than natural seniority/popularity that we know of.

Nepo hiring doesn't actually matter, and is arguably just an extension of networking (which everyone in every industry does, and how 80% of hte workforce gets work).
What matters is Conflict of Interests. If your uncle is your manager, he is probably gonna go softer or harder on you than he would any other employee, which is a conflict of interest. It's why most major corporations do not allow family members to exist on different tiers of the corporate hierarchy without some insulation between each other.
