you are missing critical information anons. youtube re-encodes every video you upload. youtube accepts extremely high bitrates but the viewer doesn't see that source video, they see a different video that youtube just made in the fly which is ~4500kbps or less depending on the resolution.

twitch does not do that, which is why it's such lower latency, and also why twitch is anal about your upload bitrate, because twitch viewers actually see the unaltered source video. you can confirm this yourself by archiving some videos, your own videos even.

I archive a lot of Youtube and Twitch streams and also upload my own Youtube videos and can say that you're either full of shit or gravely mistaken. I can only assume you're comparing Twitch/Youtube's built in stats window, which will give you incorrect information as Twitch's shows the actual video bitrate while Youtube shows your connection speed to Youtube's server. Or comparing with yt-dlp's options display, which shows some kind of recommended bitrate arbitrarily set by Youtube which is usually higher than the actual video bitrate as well. If you actually acquire the video files yourself you can see that Twitch's are better quality, with the only possible exception being 4k streams on Youtube, and even then I'm not sure since I have only seen a 4k stream once.

That sounds like either a CBR vs. CRF problem, or from years ago before streamers got better CPUs. Twitch generally recommends streamers use a static bitrate for a smoother viewing experience with bad internet while Youtube encodes videos to have a variable bitrate that usually looks better in motion but last time I checked you can use those same settings on Twitch, it's just most people choose not to because they don't understand video.

No, because a big part of Holo-culture is the algorithm capturing the audience in the "holobox" through vods, streams, and clips. Another part is being able to jump to another holo stream. Sure people can setup adblocks, but any barrier is a barrier. 3 minutes of unskippable ads is cancer.

That's probably where the biggest hit is going to be. Laplus already disclosed that her finances took a hit from moving to Twitch. I believe Twitch is moving back to the old 70/30 without the 100k cap again, but sending bits vs SCs is slightly different psychologically. Sure, Google caps it at $500 a week IIRC, but sending a $250 SC vs paying $308 for 25,000 bits to send will affect how people send money. If Cover starts seeing less revenue from streaming due to the switch, there will definitely be some changed to adapt and as an end-user, I don't believe I'll be happy with the changes.

4K video is the only time Youtube goes above Twitch from what I've seen, the few streams I checked seem to be around 10000kbps.

But do note that stream quality and archive quality are different on Youtube. When it comes to 1080 video and below, streams will be ~4500k (with AVC), but the archives are then re-encoded again to a slightly smaller filesize, which makes archiving a pain in the ass because you need to record the actual stream if you want it in the highest quality possible. The quality isn't actually that different I'm just autistic.

But the opposite is true for 1440p and 4k videos. For those the stream will be a lower bitrate and the archive will be higher. For an example I recorded a 1440p stream and the stream quality is 4000k, while the archive is 6000k. One 4K video I experimented with was a ~10000k stream with a 12000k archive. Those are both using a different codec though so don't compare them directly with the 1080 videos I talked about. I haven't made any 4K footage of my own to experiment with so I don't know Youtube's limits exactly when it comes to that.
