Hololive and Niji superchat/stream rates at the same, as far as we know... so if we talk about merch, you have to have enough in capital to dump maybe $15k into designing merch and selling it yourself. There's bigger risk but bigger rewards and you would likely need to incorporate yourself as a business and employ your own team. I guess if you're a small enough indie, it's pretty much the same economics as artists who sell art at anime conventions.

It's a small industry, and pretty much everyone knows each other. In that sense, every vtuber has two layers to their reputation. Sadly, the attack on Doki's reputation falls flat the moment you realize there are plenty of industry talents that immediately wished her well. For starters; Mumei, someone that is KNOWN to be a joy to work with, is close personal friends with Doki. Birds of a feather flock together. The same could be said for Fillian. Though not quite fitting the mold of an 'industry-vtuber', she is certainly someone with a large enough background to be able to pick and choose her friends at her leisure. U-san is also known to be skittish, why would she associate with a manipulator and a bully when she has no obligation to do so?

Doki is reputable because the people she runs with are reputable.

There's a few issues.

First, going back to indie is a big gamble. Kson is the big example of this - she massively reclined despite a very promising start to her indie career and vShojo didn't really turn things around for her. There are reasons for this beyond just "INDIE BAD" but people are naturally going to wonder. It's going to be even worse for the new waves - a lot of them are getting 2view numbers and graduation would probably only make things worse, plus, Nijisanji will probably demand immediate repayment of the debut debt plus any associated penalties with quitting.

Second, Nijisanji is a big name and basically destroyed Sayu's career. There are probably concerns that if they left, they could expect the company to sabotage them. Even if the company doesn't sabotage them, they encourage the Sisters to view ex-Livers as "traitors" so they'll have problems with antis wherever they go.

Third, in the case of the bullies, things may be better for them outside of the company, but they're all drunk on power right now. Nijisanji has given them basically what appears to be unlimited license to bully and terrorize whoever the fuck they want. If you got off on hurting people and had a bunch of captive employees you could torture as much as you want, why would you leave? Remember, there has been no apparent punishment or reprimand for any of the people who made the Selen disaster possible, so I can only assume the company approves.

Fourth, I just don't think a lot of them are very smart. The smart people saw what was happening and have been fleeing for the exits since Zaion. Too many doubled down, thinking they could ride this out, or let themselves get brainwashed. There are potential financial penalties associated with leaving, but if they walked, in the current atmosphere, I doubt Niji would be able to sue with a prayer of winning. Doubly so if there was a mass walkout. But I don't think these people are smart enough to organize such a mass resignation and many have probably deluded themselves by saying "If people just stopped causing trouble, everything would be fine!" or "it's all the Dramatubers fault!"

She's very well aware that public opinion of her skews positively rn, and it's a good idea to lean in by reconnecting with old friends [gumi, shylily, her apex friends], but also extending her reach to other [relatively smaller] communities [that she as selen couldnt reach, or that her ex-colleagues wouldn't bother to].

It's a fairly sound idea. Elira knew Sykkuno before Sykkuno got big, so it's possible, but Sykkuno may see it as the mess it is and decline any PR aid.
But Shoto's a bag of worms and for the past year and a half, he's been more interested in what he can get out of his relationships before he cuts people out. Even during this Doki drama he's used his platform to advertise himself and praise himself for being a successful indie.

It was always for 3D but Anycolor is so incompetent that they're a joke. They're treating NijiEN's 3D as a pump and dump scheme to artificially inflate their quarterly reports, but they can't treat their talents well enough to keep them from jumping ship before the 3D debuts are released.
So they burn through all their funds to record 3D, someone gets fed up and jumps ship, and Anycolor scraps everything they did and has to reshoot most of the debut.

This cycle has repeated at least five or six times now.
