this is getting into major timeloop territory, but two years should be more than enough time for the dust to settle
there were quite a few reasons actually, but here are the main points:
>1. top gumis in with power in lumi's community (ie. mods and whales) were using her PL as their personal punching bag.
from before debut until her corpo imploded she was being anti'd, bullied, and harassed in her marshmallows, the thread, discord, and anywhere else they could anti her. There was even a point when they were spreading misinformation and rrats in different communities to try and defame her. bear in mind that while she stopped posting in wvt, she was still lurking the thread and lumicord and only stopped after the antis became too much for her

originally it was just a few taking part in the general trolling/bullying in wvt that caused imaginary friend to graduate, from there it evolved into them actively using her as a scapegoat for sei's crusade against kiki which of couse resulted in the famous pyon meltdown where a disillusioned fan posted the screenshots sei gave him kiki still antis coni for that, post-debut it was because she was doing GFE content during a time when lumi and especially gumi's were anti-GFE and they believed she was trying to use it to take Lumi's place as the cl thread's "favorite vtuber", and finally pre/post-implosion where things were especially bad it was because Coni was acting as you put it 'evil bitch' towards lumi

>2. when she confronted lumi about the bullying, anting, and harassment she was recieving from gumis, all she got in return was denial and indifference.
contrary to popular belief, coni wasn't just shit talking lumi in behind her back, she was trying to work with Lumi to fix the problem. The actual purpose of the "secret discord server" from the famous screenshots vera vee leaked she's also the one behind the outfit leaks that misaki was blamed for was to coordinate a confrontation they were going to (and did) do with Lumi over problems that were happening which they felt she was responsible for. one of which was the shitty manner in which she and Yuri conducted their graduation, which included lumi talking multiple talents out of graduating right before they themselves announced their graduation.
the result from both attempts? utter denial and indifference.

this is why she acted like an 'evil bitch' behind the scene
