AnyColor on the other hand decided to cut corners with their overseas branches, and after seeing no particularly big blowback after things went to shit they sorta decided to stick with it, not expecting a shitstorm this big from the western audience that is more sensitive to how people are treated.

There's no telling what Anycolor will do, but behind the scenes they might be preparing the same moves. To drop talent(s) that are intentionally fueling flames and managers who are working with ulterior motives. Those decisions come at the end of an internal investigation.

Cut the branch as an independent entity and fold any talents they think they can keep into the main branch. But then they really need to commit to having managers who can translate/communicate/respond in a clear manner. If not that, then at least take a deep look through EN and make some big changes to how things are distributed, because multiple former talents say "There's favoritism" is a big issue.

It's always been Nijisisters trying to stir shit up. Look at how similar the attack patterns are: Mori, Kronii, Selen, others. They decide on one narrative and then push it into as many threads as they can because then they can say it's true if so many people are talking about it at once. Specific claims against talents and their fans, specific insults, the same images and claims that they will not stop posting even after they're years old. They live in an alternate reality, and you're the wrong one if you don't conform to it.

I think favoritism is simply inevitable and the only viable option they are left with when you consider their business model.
Nijisanji has always had the "quantity over quality" sort of approach, just throwing shit at the wall and seeing what sticks. And considering that the number of their talents grows larger and larger, they can't really afford to go with the seniority-based system, otherwise it would take ages for anyone to get anything, so the only option left is meritocracy where you get stuff based on how well you perform.

Sure, meritocracy can work. But it is very Darwinist in its approach. Don't get enough subs, SCs/sales or views? You're not crawling out of that hole. And if there is indeed talent doubling as management, then that removes all merit in the first place. In that setting it's just a clique making sure they get what they want.
Every agency has its drawbacks. Using the most obvious comparison of Hololive, talents wait months for studio time because everyone gets to use it. Even when they opened a larger studio, they did not hire enough staff to run it at its full potential. Everyone will get their time but it might not be on actual special dates.

The best answer, I think, would be to recognize that these companies both make a lot of money and they could have studios & teams specifically in each region. If not as permanent establishments, then as teams that can travel and set up a space. But that requires willingness and trust to take some control away from a Japanese HQ. Something that Japanese investors would not want because it does carry the risk of exactly what we see with HoloCN or NijiEN.

Holo does have favoritism though, just look at Suisei. The difference is that they won't ditch their weaker members. They still get stuff and chance to grow.
It's a way healthier situation where the bigger talents get a lot of stuff and don't feel like like they're subsidizing the smaller ones, yet the smaller talents are still recognized.
I don't think it's possible with Niji though. Too many people and a terrible dog eat dog mindset enabled by management.

I'd say Pekora and Marine are also up there with Suisei, but I think everyone in the company is well aware of what kind of "favoritism" is actually offered to those three. As in those who haven't received those same opportunities known well enough that they wouldn't be able to make use of those opportunities as well as those at the top.
Suisei is a beast when it comes to musical performances and concerts, Pekora's brand is insanely popular and family-friendly which makes all of the Japanese sponsors go AWOOGA!, and Marine is just as popular as Pekora, if not more so, but hits a different demographic.
So I think Hololive's favoritism comes in the form of giving their talents a bit more help with those huge opportunities that come their way.

The new streaming identity law is a bit misunderstood, it requires vtubers to do a faceID check before streaming. It really doesn't have anything to do with doxxing because CCP already require ID to stream anyway (that's why the massive Chinese vtuber dox pic are all ID photos).

Unless Holo starts another CN branch, I'm perfectly fine with them only uploading vods and it would made the remaining fans more than happy.

Hololive has had and bounced back from multiple PR and legal apocalypses. The amount of money and sheer expertise they invest into making sure they're in the clear and their talents are happy to stick around must be insane. Nijisanji, on the other hand, has gotten around its issues largely by simply spamming more talents and pretending it's not happening, with a couple of harebrained lawsuits filed along the way. You get the impression looking at the two of them that Holo listens to its legal and PR teams to determine business strategy while Niji uses them as tools to attack external threats without making any changes to how they do business internally.

Marine's success doesn't come from Cover's favoritism. It comes from the fucking tiktok algorithm picking up MariBako and everything snowballed from there. She used her own money and connections to get there.
Pekora has been the top dog for a while now, and she got there from streaming. That's why people like Hikakin or Sugita want to collab with her. The obvious favoritism was how she got a sololive despite her singing ability, but you know, year of the rabbit.
My issue with Suisei is that she's so obviously Cover's entry to mainstream popularity than she can get anything. And in addition she's tied to the hips to Miko and almost every official event in 2023 had MiComet.

I mean, Suisei did plenty of shit done by herself during the early days, it's only starting from 2023 that Cover bends over backwards to accomodate her but before that she did a lot to "deserve" her current status, starting from selling herself as a singer by doing lots of karaokes and covers, popularizing the concert format for 3D debuts and anniversaries, and having some of the first holo bangers (NCP and GHOST) which catapulted her to stardom.
