Well it may surprise you, but countries don't typically invent systems of law from scratch. They look at what has worked across the world and copy them. For example, the US and Canada are both based on British Common Law, whereas the Japanese system is a mishmash with some elements of British Common Law.

as anons have said >>69288411 >>69288425

So yes, an American lawyer does have some credibility in assuming how Canadian and Japanese laws may work.

What?
Not directly descended as you seem to think. Canadian law is influenced by English common law more than anything. There's some convergence in areas like IP law, and definitely US influence in regulations to make it easy to do business with US, but not all Canadian law.
Japanese civil procedure is incredibly different from US law. The US wrote the Japanese constitution, to set up the overall government structure. Individual nuances of laws and procedures are based on Japanese culture and the incidentals of history over the last 60 years.

Both Canadian and US law is based on British Common Law.

Please explain how the Japanese judicial system is so different from how law generally works in British Common Law based systems. From my understanding they have statutes, a judge, a jury, and lawyers presenting evidence.

Back before he started covering political shit which made me unsub a long time ago, I remember watching Legal Eagle who did similar things. But he once did a legal perspective review of Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory using American Federal Law, which to me was fucking stupid. Yes, technically the story does not state where it takes place in the book, but I feel like a it would fit better to apply British law if he had to apply any. And it wasn't just this, he did this for other non-American settings. I think these lawyer Youtubers should really, really take the country things take place in before they weight in instead of drama chasing, especially if they don't know the ins and outs of a foreign country's laws.

However, I think it would be interesting for a Canadian lawyer or someone more familiar with their legal system to do one about this if he is properly familiar with the facts of the case.

NTA, but law is a HUGELY over-saturated field, at least in the US. It was known for decades upon decades that it was a "simple" way to get a high paying job with no math skills. So of course, a ton of people went into it. And now there are too many lawyers, which means that it is harder to get a good position, ESPECIALLY if you don't go to a top law school. Some resort to stuff like YouTube as a way to use their law knowledge. I have no idea about other countries.

>> No.69291180

>>69290661
I'll put it more simply since you're missing the point. They're all based on roughly the same principles that precede all the modern systems. A judge, potentially a jury, and lawyers presenting evidence to convince some party whether some law was violated.

If you can bring some random low IQ schmuck and tell them they must be in a jury, do you think they can have an opinion whether or not a law was violated? Why would anyone think an American lawyer not be able to do this for a Canadian trial?
