Beautiful sentence. I like how the idea of the dissolved shadow is setup by his almost invisible shadow earlier, well done.
I really thought she was gonna immolate the kid in front of his dad, so that was a nice twist, I guess I should have noticed how non-lethal she was being. I always like when "elemental magic" has an affinity that isn't "just" the element, like water magic being good for healing, or wind magic being good for stealth, or here fire magic being linked to this calming spell. Generally speaking, that would be a gross oversimplification of a global market system. Realistically there would be 3 general categories of good.

Commodities - as in, Foodstuffs, Fuel, Raw Materials, (Including basic refined resources such as metal alloys, slaves, wooden boards, and cloth. This includes Gold and Silver.)

Refined Goods - Highly refined items. Weapons. Ships. Advanced tools. Fine clothing. Arguably would include intellectual resources to, you know, stuff like skilled workers, engineers, scribes, so on so forth.

Luxuries - Things people want because they feel nice. The classic examples are Tea, Spices, and Coffee. Perfumes, Incense, Intoxicants (such as fine wine, opium, and the like). Art, Gems, Pearls could sort of be listed here as well.

Fiat - Essentially, Credit. A promise of payment. A contract that reads "The [insert financial entity here] is to pay to the person presenting this contract a sum of X amount of gold." or "The carrier of this contract is given the privilege to buy Pepper in city Y at a pre-agreed price of Z grams of gold per kilogram of spice." which is essentially like trading options on spice trade now that i think of it or "The carrier of this contract is owed よ bundles of silk cloth by [enter financial entity here]."
Generally speaking, especially in a setting where trade is well established and considered somewhat stable, it is much easier to carry promises of payment than it is to carry the money itself.

How trade would most likely work is that person X buys commodities A, B, C, D from place よ, then travels to place ゆ where he trades A, B, C, D into commodities and refined goods E, F, G, before going back to place よ. Meanwhile, person Y who bought A, B, C, D from person X trades A, B, C, D into Commodities, Refined Goods, Luxuries, or Fiat H, I, J and sends his underling Z to place や to trade H, I, J into commodities L, M, N, O, P Q. Then the underling ought to come back carrying L, M, N, O, P, Q to place ゆ where they are again traded into E, F, G, and the cycle repeats.

Well, in your defense it's questionable whether Fiat counts as a good in itself, personally I wouldn't. But yeah, nice breakdown. >Well, in your defense it's questionable whether Fiat counts as a good in itself
It is very arguable, but I would argue that it is. At least the way i envisioned it as in, trading wealth in a form that is not material itself it would be. Massive fortunes are made from buying and selling debt, options, and credit in its various forms. It is more a question of how advanced an economic system is than anything. I do not think a very medieval society would have a debt market similar to modern USA for example.

So Baker-chan would sell bread made from Sanallite wheat. So for more civilized countries she can sell bread for money that's legal tender only in that country. But she can't use it to buy things in other countries. So Baker-chan is going to have to figure out what goods she can trade thats valueable in other countries for their legal tender to buy stuff. This isn't taking into account of laws. Like in /wawa/ Baker-chan might not be allowed to sell bread from her ship there as it competes with KFP. However Baker-chan can sell her labor and expertise to KFP in exchange for tender or freedom.

/uuu/ is easy to figure out because they're a simple barter system. Whatever can't grow there is in high demand. In old /who/ we settled on building an independent bakery that had /nasa/ as a wheat and ingredient supplier.

I’m glad you like it! Hot crazy girls do seem to be popular both in and out of V&U…
I made her non-lethal since I feel her actually killing people who might as well be unarmed would be crossing a line and making her a full-blown villain (despite what the beginning paragraphs allude to) and I think it helps showcase how combat magic can be used besides making big numbers pop out. That said she probably could win non-lethally just with her parasol rapier since its built-in fire mechanism should cauterize any wounds she make
For the magic categories I kinda just make them up as I go but the colors do match their general types! I also try to use the association to show how /vnug/ culture sees some of those elements
>orangered: fire, comfort
>dodgerblue: water, cold (due to how /vnug/ passive cooling works)
The ice spell line used to be in aqua instead but reading the rentry on other devices made me realize it’s too close to the next category so I changed it to the water spell to simplify things
>turquoise: force
I didn’t elaborate in the writing but it works by amplifying existing movement, so the small nudge from her pull or the electromagnetic force in the next one became strong enough to be useful in combat. It’s also combined with force above to show how they can be used together! She also used it to accelerate herself near the ending. I probably would’ve chosen something more purple-y for it but I read turquoise was used to make risuners glide back in the days so I figured it would be a nice touch
>goldenrod: lightning and electricity

In the heart of the Ilimyth's icy grasp,
Where frosty winds weave a chilling clasp,
A lone lemur met its tragic end,
In a tale of struggle, pain, and rend.

Once a lively sprite among the trees,
With nimble limbs and agile ease,
It sought its meal 'neath the alpine sky,
Unaware of the predator's eye.

The Cocoraptor, swift and keen,
With talons sharp, its prey unseen,
Snatched the lemur from its perch so high,
In a flurry of feathers, it bid goodbye.

With a desperate twist and a daring bite,
The lemur fought with all its might,
But fate had cast its cruel decree,
And sent it tumbling, unbound and free.

Through the swirling snow, it fell,
To meet the jagged rock's cruel knell,
With bones shattered and spirit torn,
Its life's thread frayed, its hope forlorn.

Yet in the silence of the icy vale,
Amidst the howling, bitter gale,
The lemur found a peaceful rest,
As snowflakes adorned its frozen chest.

No more the pain, no more the strife,
It slipped away from the grip of life,
To join the Goddess in her embrace,
In the endless dance of time and space.

Though its tale ends in sorrow's embrace,
Its spirit lives on in the frozen grace,
Of the Ilimyth Valley's cold expanse,
Where life and death in balance dance.

So let us remember the lemur's plight,
And heed the lesson in its flight,
That in the face of fate's cruel twist,
Even in darkness, there's a gentle mist.

Hey guys, I'm thinking of making a textured map of Viti to make things nice and pretty. I'm going to be basing the colors off of the biome of the area, and try to use real life equivalents for reference.
I'm starting with the island that /choc/ is on since it's mostly one biome, and so should be a good starting point for practice. In pic related, I'm planning on using southern Florida as the color reference for Wetlands in general, but if you guys have any other suggestions I'd be happy to see them for more variety.

If it can help, for filling in relief detail you can use picrel to get an idea where some large rivers might form.

>> No.69462885

>>69461654
I'll try, though if you could elaborate more it would help. Are you specifically saying that you don't want the wetland areas, and for the forest areas to be a specific color(s)?
Also, as a suggestion since /uuu/ is magical and all, I could go as far as to add colors that are magical/unnatural if you wanted, like for example if you wanted a purple forest somewhere, or something multi-colored. Regardless I'll try to stick to what you saplings want.
>>69461739
Looks nice, I'll have to add in those wild looking rivers for some wetland areas.
>>69461995
Yeah, that does look like it'll do a better job of showing the elevation for river making than the simplistic default version.

>Looks nice, I'll have to add in those wild looking rivers for some wetland areas.
Yeah, you can sorta see it in that relief map >>69462885 but you tend to have wild meandering back-and-forth rivers in flatter areas (like the west coast of /uuu/, and generally wet lands) and more straight rivers in areas with a stronger slope (Like the rivers flowing down the the gem/wawa/morig mountain range), so you can play with that.

>> No.69464243

>>69463413 (me)
also the relief map has a bit of a "straight river" bias (prolly because of how the erosion simulation works) so I'd go more meandering than it does in flatter areas.

I wrote about a bacteria's good day!
I'm pretty happy with how this render turned out, I looked at a bunch of pictures to make it. I would have kinda liked to put more varied organelles in there, but I didn't want to spend a billion years on this. I particularly like how the endoplasmic reticulum around the nucleus turned out.
Also, it turns out that the color associated with deadbeat ice magic is going to be a deep red, which I find both cool and amusing. I guess it might be more accurate to call it death magic which makes things very cold.
