The only way it is even somewhat excusable is if they were absolutely 100% convinced that Doki was about to dump the entire document publicly and that the release was imminent. In that case, getting ahead of the accusations by contradicting them beforehand is a reasonable damage control manoeuvre, since that will at least blunt some of the damage by priming the audience to treat the release with scepticism. A somewhat understandable plan, if not for the fact Doki and her lawyer were NEVER planning to release that document.
