69210822 No.69210822 [Reply] [Original]

Lately there has been rumors that Hololive is going to release a gen of EU based Vtubers to better cater to the EU timezone. And now there has been graduations of multiple European Vtubers (Reiny, Shizukou, and Yuniiho). Any chance this is real? Would this be a good idea?

Also, for those that would say they wouldn't release a new gen so soon after Advent (its been 6-7 months) there are three things to consider:
1. Just because they are graduating now doesn't mean they will debut soon. Hololive has a long training period for new talents even ones that have been in the industry a long time.
2. EN4 could be coming sooner than usual since Advent was very obviously delayed. They could be making up for lost time and releasing a new gen 9-11 months after the last instead of waiting for more than a year as usual.
3. There is no guarantee that a HoloEU would even be EN4, it could potentially be a new branch similar to how DEV_IS is its own thing.

If that were the case morning streams would be swimming in donos and memberships. But when those happen they have lower ccv, lower donos, and lower memberships. Not just something that applies to hololive, nijisanji and indies also experience that. It's because the euro timezone has a lot less english speakers free to watch something. It's a geographic thing, it's harder to get more eyes on you with that timezone. Europe is also fucked with inflation and spending less, and or english isn't their first language. They are technically an untapped market but they are also a very small market since they are divided up by language. There's a reason YouTubers default to English even if they are dutch, german or swedish. Look at Kiara for an example that is already there. Kiara also got shocked at her numbers when she streamed at US prime time as she normally starts when people are at work or at school in the US. US prime time is 5pm PST as everyone is awake at that time.

EU is extremely segregated when it comes to mindshare. You have to hit different markets, and they all prefer different things despite living in the same timezones. French streamsphere is its own thing. German streamsphere is in its own bubble. Italy streamsphere has their own cliques. Even if, they managed to get an autistic girl that plays nothing but simulator games that grab the german viewship, it does not translate viewership for Turkey nor Sweden for example.
The only safe play is to pander the Youkay, even then, they won't have as much pull for the normies. Maybe a premier league watchalong chuuba can mix things up. Maybe DOTA streamer since its the only videogame that EU as a whole can enjoy watching.

SEA is a safe bet since they all just eat up whatever nippon slop they can get, its easier to market, and the audience are well versed with Japan. EU is too diversified for a solid strategy, and they had to stream on the worst time slot possible for both Asia and NA. Even HoloES is a much better angle to market the new holos.

A dude from California knows a bit about Texas stuff and vice versa. In Europe, a dude from Italy has no idea if not the name of the premier if he's an educated guy about let's say Germany political landscape, let alone other aspects of their culture aside from basic historical knowledge even Americans know. So a vtuber from Germany is gonna resonate way more with a German person than let's say a vtuber from California is gonna resonate with a California denizen.

As a EU, I can say that I just got used watching VODs, since the vtubers I like don't streams at EU hours and forcing myself to watch someone I enjoy less simply because they are live don't appeal to me.
If a vtuber that I like streamed during hours I could actually watch live consistently then they could become part of a routine, and by degrees maybe even push myself to be more active with superchats and the like.

>This is pretty much a time zone issue. Content that's convenient for the US time zone can't be enjoyed in Europe. People enjoy interactive communication between fans watching the same stream live, so they can't enjoy that.

I was about to say. Many European countries have become very anglicized over the decades. The advent of the internet has only solidified the desire to consume US over local entertainment.

Apart from that, European countries still diverge heavily when it comes to laws and licensing. Cover only needs one team of lawyers to represent most of their English speaking talents. They'd have to invest a lot more into the backstage.

For instance, streamers that exceed a certain number of CCV regularly need to apply for an official broadcasting license in Germany. They'd have to pay for it on a yearly basis, just like a full blown TV station. Why would Cover want to deal with that if they could just hire yet another Bri'ish girl?

I'm genuinely not sure if people just don't know much about vtubers here, or there's simply no interest in them. Even in the local weeb culture it hasn't managed to take off, you can't find vtuber cosplayers on cons, nobody gets the references, maybe on a surface level people know who Korone is thanks the the youtube algorithm, but I've met maybe 4-5 people who were actually interested in this scene. Also I feel like people still have a moral issue with streaming culture as a whole, especially when it comes to superchatting. You'd get shit on here so bad if people realized that you're watching vtubers, let alone if youre sending money to them. Regardless, if they managed to cover those timezones, it would become profitable in no time, I mean consider that they keep the stars too despite them making way less money, simply because expanding their reach is the best business strategy overall, you can't just stand on one leg forever. Europe is an untapped marked, but if they do change that, I can only assume that it's going to be a third rate side branch around as important as ID or perhaps even less. They would just be streaming in English anyway, there's zero point using another language, maybe as some special streams or teaching others about European cultures. They should hire a girl from each Balkan country and make them do a collab every week. Though as I noticed they go for Asian descendants anyway, like half of HoloEN.

Indeed, starting up a vtuber may be expensive but not for a corporation as big as Cover, and maintaining them costs pretty much no money. Considering that a Hololive girl is pretty much insta 100k subscriber even if they never do a stream after their debut, the youtube revenue itself most likely covers the whole cost in a few months at worst. At this point they simply cannot be not successful when it comes to debuting new chubas, everyone will be profitable. Maybe them getting 3D won't be prioritized, but remember that back then holos got 3D after reaching 100k subs, so that's probably not that big of an issue either. And there's absolutely enough presence in EU to sell out whatever kind of limited merch, even if it's overall a smaller market than NA or JP. Regardless of whether it would be profitable or not, Cover is currently in the best position financially to attempt this. If it's not as big, then they can still play the long game and build the audience slowly and just treat the initial capital to branch out as a long term investment. But imagine if they again caught a lightning in a bottle with it. Just pray that whoever they debut would be star talent (comparatively, at least). Once they get EU, they'd have total timezone domination for VTubers. If they still had a "good" CN branch, they'd also have language domination.

In Spanish, your main audience will be South-American. There are already many vtubers who broadcast in Spanish. Not rich, but they got at least internet and mobiles to watch youtube.

Now is not a good moment to invest 'big money' in Europe in leisure companies because, if you bothered opening any economics newslet, you'd read about the impending economic crisis that's about to get into Europe. We are getting ready for another oil price increase the following months, war in Ukraine is going horribly wrong for everybody (except for USA), royal state market is about to crash (again), free money from venture companies (mainly oil countries) has evaporated.

Live streams are worse than edited videos. The only reason people put up with that is because they get live interaction as a tradeoff, so if you only have VODs you're just getting a worse experience with nothing to show for it.
