See- if you don't act like retards who will squash even the appearance of dissent... it implies that dissent won't be punished. Which then opens the door for people to air their REAL grievances and expect you to do something about it. And then when you DON'T because you're the reason all those grievances exist, they start wanting to get rid of you and there goes any sense of power and authority you had, along with your position most likely.

The way to think about it is you shake a bottle of soda so much it's about to explode. You can't turn the cap even slightly or else it'll explode and fizz everywhere. Not turning the cap doesn't mean that there's a shit ton of stuff burbling under the surface, but any ammount of budging at that point ends up actually being a threat to your position.
