What the fuck did they think they were doing with that statement? You can't Zaion someone who's been around since the early days to set down roots and make connections. People know Selen and had links with her in a way that Zaion never had time to, and her being a little drama-hungry anyway helped the "eh, she was kinda still on probation, sucks but I guess it's not really my problem" pill go down.

The PR shitstorm with your audience isn't even the worst part, the worst part is that every other streamer she was friends with or even just casually knew her is watching you, the guy(s) who were supposed to be supporting her until about a month ago, composing some 2ch-anti-worthy rant carefully calculated to cause the maximum possible damage to the public life and future prospects of someone who was already fired. How are they going to feel knowing that in every interaction with any of their support staff, all of their own little disagreements or problems are being carefully noted down in little black books of grudges, just in case they're the next one? Unless Doki is literally just bare-facedly lying, it would have been so incredibly easy to just put out a vague "in the end we weren't able to find a solution to Selen's disagreements with management and so we have no choice but to mutually agree to part ways, graduation stream never but best of luck or whatever, bye", and yet them somehow found a way to get the L on that.

And that's not even getting into the sheer what-the-fuck-are-you-doingery of bringing up, completely unprompted, potential bullying among your own public-facing talent when Doki only ever mentioned management/environment problems and was deliberately vague about any other sources of conflict. Do they WANT baseless speculation everywhere about who's the secret abuser? Is the goal to spread the blame among the talents to take some heat off management? Is it just to look good for the JP audience, like everything was just the fault of Western Girl Bad so niji is spotless? Is it a case of assholes assuming everyone else is an asshole, and so presuming Selen was all set with her own grudge list of specific accusations they needed to get ahead of when she almost certainly just wants to leave and move on? Genuinely, I want to know what the fuck the plan was here.

As much as I'd like to see that, it won't happen. She's full indie now and most of Selen's original sub count consists of dead accounts, same as every other youtuber. Without professional marketing and only the drama and legacy to back her, expecting a full recovery is ludicrous. I understand feeling hatred for somebody for committing suicide - I'm a religious man myself and had to deal with somebody I knew killing themselves - but at the same time, suicide isn't really a sign of weakness. Those who kill themselves are often in states of extreme emotional lows and can't see or feel anything other than their own hatred for the world and/or themselves. Dealing with the depressed is an uphill battle, but the good thing is that those who have suicidal depression often just need a bit of time to see how loved and cherished they are. Selen, fortunately, did not successfully kill herself, and at this point it has served as a harrowing reminder of the people who really do care for her and everybody who wants to help her succeed. Instead of looking on this as her being selfish and evil, consider that she understands now better than ever how loved she is.

I've never really been one to get obsessive about numbers, some of my favorite vtubers don't even have 20k subs. But I will say it is very encouraging to see that in less than a day, Doki has already regained 25% of the subs she had as Selen, and undoubtedly more to come in the future. It shows that corpos are no longer capable of stifling this stuff - if someone wants to leave, they will easily regain their old audience. Possibly more, since there are a lot of tribal people who will refuse to watch someone on principle just because she's in a hated corporation. Which is sad, but it does happen. I know they probably won't, but corporations need to learn that they had better do everything they can to keep their talents around and treat them well, otherwise it gets to the point where they actually gain more from leaving than from staying and then what's the point of a corporation at all? In Nijisanji's case, they hardly gave them anything and have become too reliant on the idea that people won't want to leave their "family" and lose all the friendships they've made there. For a time people were willing to put up with that, but it's clearly not enough anymore. Of course, this applies to every corpo, not just Nijisanji. There's only a couple I can think of that really incentivize their talents to stay.

Anyway, my point is, I'm happy to see how easy it has to migrate Selen's fanbase over to Dokibird. The vtuber community has realized there's no business to keeping secrets anymore, all it results in is the old fanbase running around like a chicken with its head cutoff and months later you still get straggler posts from people who say "I miss Selen" and have no idea that she's still streaming. It is very important to broadcast loud and clear that she has moved to a different account, and from the looks of it, it's working. A ton of people have followed her there. The tactics used were highly effective. Considering that not all of her 800k subs were necessarily still active, I'd say if she can make it to half that, then I will feel confident that 100% of her active fanbase was able to find her. And she looks like she is on pace to do so.

I do feel immediately suspicious of the people who are still calling her Zaion after all this time, and not referring to the time when she went by Zaion, like you just did. Like I get still saying Selen instead of Doki out of habit since the wound is still fresh, but in Sayu's case, it's been a year.
