Pretty easy to tell people who don't play the game seriously at all, as they know nothing about it.

But if you want a serious comparison to CSGO? I played CSGO for years myself. Apex is not easy or hard by itself. What gives the game difficulty, is the other players. It's like playing chess online. Even CSGO vets will become complete beginners when starting apex, because they're up against more experienced players, and the movement system makes it a completely different genre than CSGO, Valorant or PUBG.

Regarding skill transfer, skills from games like CSGO don't translate well into Apex, because the time to kill is high, so camping or getting cheap shots as in CSGO offers less advantage. Each battle becomes a dance where you constantly re-position, climb and grapple (as in Selen's gameplay). And yet the movement in Apex is not so free and wild like in Quake or Titanfall either. The devs believe Quake / Titanfall movement would turn the game into a reflex shooter (while CSGO / Valorant is a positional shooter). Apex is somewhere in between. There is enough movement to negate positional advantage (camping), and yet enough restrictions that you can roughly tell where people are, and form long-term strategies, regrouping or flanking, based on that. So each encounter becomes a memorable story. A perfect example of a story is Selen's final battle with the Bangalore smurf in her 18-kill streak win, where they formed big-brain strategies against each other and re-positioned like half a dozen times before the Banglore slipped up. It doesn't always happen, but whenever it does, it's pure kino.

Thats not that impressive considering viewership for Matsuri and Towa sink when its APEX compared to shit like singing or MC. In general, Holofans don't seem that interested in APEX so using them for comparison isn't great. Ayame always get views because her streams are rare and while Aqua gets good views for APEX, she can get better with other games. Choco has seen an incline tho but its for all her streams and not just APEX.

The others don't really play APEX that much. Nijis probably get the most views for APEX (tho its usually just KanaKuzuChi) among vtubers besides Shibuya Hal. But the anon is right, skill doesn't necessarily translate to views. Look at Kuzuha's numbers compared to Gorilla or Masters players or even Hal, he even gets higher than Bora and Kanae who are Nijis and better skilled.

Not even an important reason. And many nijis don't even care about the game.

The most important reasons are:
- Language barrier: The global EN pandemic boom dwarfed everything JP vtubers like Fubuki had done previously. See the image below.
- Clippers: Millions fell into the rabbit hole via viral clips e.g. from Miko and Fubuki. This is arguably the most important reason as it is the first exposure for many into the rabbit hole.
- Azur Lane: Why did clippers prefer hololive? The answer was unironically the Chinese. The Azur Lane collab was the first breakout for hololive to overtake Nijisanji, and for the Chinese clippers to flock to hololive. They then translated hololive stuff to English, and shilled for them to the global audience. Long before Coco incident, of course.
- Minato Aqua: She was called the Nijisanji killer among fans. She popularized many methods and characteristics that made former Nijisanji fans start switching to hololive, and people like Fubuki and others adopted her streaming tactics as well. Aqua and Fubuki of course featured prominently in the Azur Lane collab as well.
- HoloEN: Related to the first reason. Gura said "a" to people stuck at home in a pandemic. Then she sang Ride in Time. And the rest is history.
- Unity: hololivers are fewer in quantity. But they are a family. They interact often in hologra videos and have strong uniformity, so most hololive fans can name at least half the family. Because management is stricter, they also stream regularly and interact with fans in a consistent way. Each holo's success adds to the rising tide that lifts the whole family. Even the worst holo girl gets like 300k subs. Nijisanjis are way bigger and looser. And one liver's success is less likely to lift the whole company.

Even if some random nijisanji had diversified his or her gaming choice, it would still have been useless against all the above. Personally, as a holo fan, I don't even care about Korone or Pekora's "diverse" gaming choices.
