Adding to 1: There have been a couple good answers but there is a large factor of being in the right place at the right time. Hololive started their English branch during a time when a lot of people were getting into vtubers, early to mid 2020 saw clip channels explode possibly due to lockdowns among other things. holoEN was the first serious corpo English vtuber wave and especially early on left the impression of extremely high quality candidates. Gura herself had extremely clipworthy moments early on and her singing helped a lot. I'm not going to argue if she is the best or anything, she is my favorite and that's all I care about
