My girlfriend's a big fan of Holostars, she takes that "oshikatsu" stuff real seriously, whatever that means, I just know she's real passionate about these idol dudes. Seeing as she's sweet enough to get into my interests despite being not really in her ballpark-like tokusatsu and Macross-I think it would only be fair if I take a more active interest, not just listen to her summarize streams but actually start watching these guys. Don't got a damn clue where to start though. I'm not asking her where to start off, because I think it'd be cute if I suddenly surprised her by flexing some knowledge or memes about them that I learned myself. If I had to tell my experience with hololive and how I got started, look for the name of one of them and watch clips, better if it is one where there are several of them so you get familiar with all of them and know how to find one that you like. And that's it, you watch their popular clips to see the best moments, if one or some of them catches your attention you can subscribe to their channels and keep an eye on their streams during your free time or you can watch it with your girlfriend or those things that productive people do

QRD for the "homobeggar" thing: Holostars are generally much more niche/less popular than their female counterparts. A lot of that is just due to the fact that they're generally after different audiences. Some fans of holostars DO push for the more popular girls to try and boost the boys, but mostly it's just a strawman to distract from the aforementioned cuckoldry-related insecurities. Personally, I'm not a big fan of collabs in general; if I wanted to watch that person, I'd check out their channel. I think having too many collabs is a sign of an entertainer's insecurity in their own content production. But as rare or occasional special events they're pretty fun.

If you’re looking for someone who has the vibe/energy of an oldschool streamer/lets play guy, I would recommend Gavis Bettel (his fans are crazy though). He kinda feels like someone you’d meet randomly on Xbox Live back in the day.

Axel is very non filtered and kind of has brotherly vibes but can be very hit or miss depending on his health. His early zatsudans/just chatting streams are really good though, especially the ones where he talks about being a high school delinquent who stood up for his teacher.

Design-wise, I'm really a fan of Ruze, Oga, and Axel and Gamma. I can't help but love something that's that over-the-top cool.

Hololive is a legitimate cultural phenomenon, especially in Japan but even somewhat in the West during the pandemic. It's an all-girl idol-themed streaming group.
Holostars are the weird male spin-off, attached at the hip but kept separate (despite repeated attempts towards more integration) because the male fans of the actually popular thing don't like them.
There are like 30 of them or something, IDK, way more than is warranted by their commercial potential. They have resources far in excess of what is justified by their economic viability because of their odd attachment to the mostly-unrelated Hololive, including frankly silly amounts of cutting-edge 3D studio access that the group couldn't fund themselves in 10,000 years without collective "sugar mommas".
Despite this misshapen, deformed "sibling" relationship between the two branches, crossover fans are very rare and thus most Holos treat these guys like plague victims. The more popular ones typically don't mention them at all except very, very rarely. So it's an unhappy family forced together by circumstances. Thus the hundreds of posts of culture war above me.

HQ was the first set of EN Holostars. The two remaining members are both in Japan at the moment. Getting 3D models is a big deal, so its a source of speculation. Altare is one of the HQ members, and is in Japan for the first time, and following what he's been up to has been fun.

All that aside, if you want some boys to watch that you might enjoy so you can chat with your girl, I'd recommend Crimzon Ruze, Josuiji Shinri, or Gavis Bettel. I recommend these on personal taste. But most of all, try looking at each of their live stream catalogues on youtube, and see if any of them play games you like. Personally, I'll watch any playthrough of certain games I enjoy, so that could be a good starting point to get a feel for if any of them are worth keeping up with.
