Indeed I feel like Gura's resume and raw talent made her weak language skills irrelevant. Ame was a bit of a gamble but paid off for the most part. She's also at least trying her best to collab with JP's even if her Japanese never improves.
So I guess if you can pick up someone with that much raw talent it might serve as an exception, but for average vtubers knowing Japanese is really important.

The least accomplished roomates on this list was the wannabe idol or the apex streamer, and both were more accomplished then anyone else's roomates except for maybe mint in the nijiEN squad. (both gens)
