I got fired by a company once. That doesn't make them a black company though - my manager was just a cunt. A black company abuses their employees while they're actually still working. Mandatory unpaid overtime, oranges instead of bonuses, stealing tips - those make a traditional black company.

We started saying Nijisanji was a black company because they encouraged many livers to go into debt to debut, rarely fund projects, take enough of the profits that all but the biggest livers can afford to do it full time and clearly play favourites when it comes to punishment. Aloe almost died warning us and years later with Selen being pushed out a window it's clear nothing has changed. Other black companies in vtubing do exist but mostly as a front for sexual harassment. Vtubing is a very menhera industry.

Firing sombody for stealing isn't uncommon. Aloe left because she had plans to kill herself because of the bullying from Nijisanji fans who had issues about her talking shit about a company she didn't work for. Coco left because she's American and chasing money at the expense of community is just part of American culture. Rushia got fired for accidentally doxing her fellow employees so they had to fire her to protect them - otherwise they would legit become a black company considering Japanese culture deals with bullying really badly. I don't know why vesper and magni left honestly. While Mel's situation still has information developing, the given reason being that she's leaked information isn't an unreasonable reason to fire her - I've seen companies take police action for that sort of thing.

None of these were company abuse. Sure I think they failed Aloe but they couldn't do anything about her. The fact that so few have chosen to leave compared to those who got fired probably says that their working conditions are actually quite good. Hell, the fact Gura still has a job says a lot about the company's patience. Same with Coco after the HoloCN incident - few companies would sacrifice a whole market for the health of their employees.
