She streams in EN hours (well, murrica hours, not EU except that one early EU morning stream) and speaks English. Her streaming time is pretty bad for JP. It'd be weird putting her in HoloJP.
She has been singing in Japanese because Cover probably realized that most of Western VTuber fans are weaboo to some extents, and weaboo don't really mind JP songs that much (if not outright prefer them over EN songs). Unlike JP Holos, she can and does communicate with them in English, and she sings what they'd like to hear (presumably).

I think you misunderstood. You can get good singers to sing behind an anime girl, but that isn’t the only thing of value, and tends to be one aspect of the whole picture. You are correct that Gura's singing is only part of the package. But I am not here to talk about "who is our oshi" in general. I simply discuss the singing abilities of vtubers. It is up for people to decide how useful that is in their overall evaluation of a vtuber. Maybe they will watch the streams, or just check out the music due to lack of time, or not, it's their choice. For me personally, I have more time for music than 3-hour game streams. Music is a big part of why I became chumbud. When I put vtuber covers / music into the playlists, I don't give them special treatment. Either my ears like it or not, no matter whether a vtuber sang it. I won't pretend to like Gura's tin can voice in Reflect even if I am a chumbud. On the other hand, Hachi's Kimi no Shiranai Monogatari stands alongside other real covers, and she has sung so many different songs as well, more than most pre-vtuber utaites can boast of.

And people's interest in IRyS also makes many want to know where she stands musically (hence so many discussions), even if only out of curiosity alone.
