How big of a deal is singing for males?
I can draw, play variety of games (mostly rogue lites/deck builders, quite a lot of FPS and i'm actually a rhythm game god). There's no way they were taking men in the first place realistically. Models, rigging and music production typically takes months altogether and Finana confirmed that the girls were auditioning for the roles instead of having characters created for them. They likely don't even have male designs prepared yet or they would've shown up on the wave 4 auditions like the wave 3 females did. This is based on 0 actual evidence, but I think they believed the "No one wants EN males" thing and planned the first 3 waves to be all female.
Then they saw that half the response on twitter and reddit (and even a lot of the response here) to LazuLight's reveal was "Wait, no males? Isn't this Nijisanji?" and realized they misjudged.

I follow the indie scene and there's some truth to the "no one wants EN males" statement. Popular guys DO exist but they're always exceptional. And I don't mean exceptional in that they're amazingly talented. I mean it's all dudes that have some circumstance unrelated to their content or talents boosting them that no new vtuber can reasonably copy.

The Twittersphere is filled with people that talk about how male vtubers are fine but every time there's a huge hyped male vtuber coming out everyone retweets him to show support then people don't even show up for the debut to find out if he's good. The last big male vtuber debut I remember was this Aki Mizuno guy who got thousands of interactions on everything he did, like Artemis levels of promotion. Only like 100 people actually came to the debut then he kept shrinking until he revealed that he was a popular real life cosplayer and merged his fanbase to save his channel from dying.

Nijisanji is worried for a reason.

I think it's mostly that the EN sphere is defined by 2 female only groups (Hololive and Vshoujo), so people generally thing vtuber = female.
And it's not like that hasn't happened elsewhere. When Nijisanji first started introducing males (who weren't babiniku) people said it would never take off due to all the popular vtubers being female, and look where we are now.
That said, anons here are right that most indie males are boring as shit (although most indies in general are boring, frankly). Anycolor is better off looking for smaller regular streamers and literallywhos would will transition well than indie males specifically.

I'm applying. I play mostly grand strategy and rts with an emphasis on Victoria 2, hoi3, and starcraft brood war.
