I started explaining and wrote a really long post. That was too much so I’ll use this to explain my reasoning think Miko singing stellar stellar. Nothing bad to say about it even if it’s not great now imagine she showed you her singing lessons for a month or two talking about how great it’ll be and it wasn’t much better than what she regularly does it was just louder. So similar to me except I disagree with the dancing. The reason they keep it small is because it’s easier to stay in sync so you would think all the hoopla over doing a large idol unit this would mean they’re going to try a lot harder for it but they didn’t. These are some of the best dancers in the company ignoring suisei, towa and koyori, though she stepped up not missing a beat. If this had been live I’d give it more leeway because some of them aren’t as used to it as others but it was prerecorded. Should go without saying but Subaru, Matsuri, and Aki nothing bad to say about them same with the centers

They're not full-time idols. Out of all the members, Matsuri is probably the only one good enough to quickly learn new choreography to make up for a missing member on short notice.

And you’re wrong on Matsuri being the only one Subaru Iroha and Nene could do it as well. Depending on how important they make it out to be Aki and Koyori could also do it as well. Matsuri is inarguably the best in the company overall though which is sad for Aki. Subaru while not a talented dancer probably puts in the most practice putting her square in second

It's extremely rare where you can actually be sure that something is *actually* live, and I gave two examples of when you can, 1. Chloe's recent 3D live where the singing was terrible and so there was no way they would have released that take if it was prerecorded and 2. NSS 1st fes where Pekora and Miko reacted in real time to their models freezing and stalled a bunch while they got it back up and running.

Talents also talk honestly about when stuff is actually live too. For example, Gozaru admitted that the dancing would be live for her most recent concert, and the shilling merch section would be live. But this is also an admission essentially that everything else, including ALL the singing, wouldn't be live.

For the most part not only is everything prerecorded, talents sometimes don't even bother to keep up the kayfabe. There have been a few instances of people streaming over their own 3D appearances, and they obviously can't be in two places at once.

I'm not making a statement about whether it's easy or not, my point is just that it fucks up your product if you're putting ACTUALLY live things and prerecorded slop side-by-side and pretending they're the same thing. It means that you have to either ask that people try to suspend their disbelief for the prerecorded slop, or actually straight up trick them into thinking something is live.

The result is that it's very easy to go to a concert and no be completely sure whether something is actually live, even when it is. It takes the specialness away from an actually good live performance because you have to wonder, instead of just being able to take each product for what it is.

Like I think everyone knows all of the 2nd fes performances were prerecorded. What about the 3rd fes and 4th fes performances, how many were prerecorded, and how many were live? People actually answer this question differently!!! This is a genuinely unfortunate outcome of pulling this shit.

Your reading comprehension is terrible, what I said was that when something sucky happens that's a big clue that something is ACTUALLY live, not that all live concerts suck. At 1st fes when pekomiko's models froze and they spent 5 minutes adlibbing to stall for time, you KNEW that was live because there was no fucking way they pre-recorded all that ad-libbing and crowd-interaction. That's the point I was making.

I think it's unfortunate that that's one of the only big clues we actually get, because it's often not communicated when something is actually live versus prerecorded.

Yes exactly, Chloe should be praised for how good her *actually* live concert was, even if it had lots of obvious flaws that wouldn't have been in an prerecorded concert. The fact that she did an actually (partially) live concert is laudable, because she's actually playing in the real leagues, not the prerecorded slop leagues.

It would be unclear whether it was prerecorded, yes. Like the performances and MC sections at 2nd/3rd/4th fes. Do you know which ones were live? Do you know which ones were prerecorded? The main way people could tell is whether they stalked the talents hard enough to know whether they were physically able to show up to perform that day. There are other clues, but a lot of clues aren't very decisive. Having to do detective work just to know is annoying.

It’s not they can’t do it live plenty of them can and have had to namely everyone before gen 5 though gen 4 is around when they started the transition to prerecorded. The issue isn’t capability it’s effort. As others pointed out some do them actually live and pretty much all solos have been live. You can probably find the clip of Mio puking while dancing, it’s glorious, but not as clean. That said every single jp members except regloss is at the level where they can do a set live. They’ve gotten a lot more competent with their tech so if they decide to transition back it would free up so much space and time for them with the one caveat being Marine’s not appearing 20+ times at someone’s live though it’ll make other members communicate more. Well one other issue would be EN/ID and the homos but fuck em

I made a point that the same person appearing in 20 lives would be impossible but 5 would be perfectly doable. And on the scheduling matter this would clean their schedules up a bit. Mark your calendars off for these particular days with 2 weeks to a month out with a lighter schedule to practice. The only real issue as far as scheduling goes would be sponsors because the girls doing the lives will need to seriously prepare and cut down streaming for that time. Still easily fixable by advertising it during the live which I doubt they’ll say no to. The more they do it the more used to it they get like other idols. Ironically some members have been looking into ways to increase their stamina and these same members don’t do their shit live. This would make their schedules a bit cleaner, make studio time more manageable, and make solo lives less of a chore because they’ll already be used to it
Only real downside is including the other branches in their lives

Aogiri corporate channel steals the top spot from Marine - maybe something to do with that 120 hour vertical stream that just looped shorts? I thought it got privated but I guess it counted towards their views total somehow.

Marine had a great month as usual. Bishopai is still getting 120k views a day, and vertical streams were extremely good for VOD views too. She has 2 separate illustrator teams making shorts too. One team uses A-KA's illustrations, and one team uses Riku's illustrations (a.k.a. the girl that Marine loved back in high school. They kept in touch, and since Riku needed a job and Marine is a big deal now Marine hired her to make shorts for her and has basically pulled her out of poverty). She also has a 3D animator making shorts, and a series where she uses plushies/figures to act out shorts. As well as the usual stream highlights and promo stuff. Overall the shorts game is very strong and varied.

Nito Wai had an insane month too, getting almost 10M more than last month. Legitimately a majority of these views are Q Remastered stream highlight shorts. She found a niche that works and she won't stop mining it. She beats out Kuzuha despite VCR GTA, Hololive corporate despite all the year-end events, as well as Pekora/Koyori/Suisei etc. who had productive months as usual.

Zaki, who basically just plays Mahjongsoul with the intention to get the most egregiously rare and unusual mahjong hand wins you could conceive of, continues to show how well that content style adapts to the shorts meta, getting fewer views than Kuzuha but beating every single Holo not named Marine. A 30 sec short is basically all you need to establish the setup before playing out some ridiculous mahjong scenario that someone might not see if they played for 1000 hours. I dunno how he farms so many unlikely situations though, aside from the one big cheat which is playing 3 player Mahjong instead of the standard 4. Back when Sio was playing I didn't know how she did it either. Mahjong content creators are just a special breed.

Shoutouts also to Tomari Mari who puts out a short every day, and they get about ~300k each which is enough to end up in the top 20 when combined with a more or less daily streaming schedule, even though the stream vods get a tenth the views of the shorts.

Yes, idol standards are practically impossible to achieve for full-time or even part-time streamers.
