If I paid for an expensive model from a popular artist, paid for fake Twitter impressions and paid for YouTube advertisements, how fast could I grow as a VTuber?

>> No.65692841

It’s still a crapshoot, really. You need to both generate buzz AND retain it. The field is heavily saturated now; no amount of purchased viewership can alleviate that.

I think there are plenty of 2view chuubas who put a lot of money to get started and are now upset that they are not the next big thing.

They did pretty well before they decided to just up and stop streaming.

vtubing is rife with seething 2views who dropped $10k on their model + assets and only managed to peak at 15 viewers and now spend their entire lives on x.com fuming at more successful streamers

There's worse games to play, although the reboot ones are hugely overrated

i need to make an updated version of this at some point...
quite a few vtubers are using a picrew png to start out too, there's a few of them that explicitly allow people to use the picrew for pngtubing.

You'd still have to stream, just having a model from a big name artist and ads isn't going to cut it.

no
i've seen pngtubers with hundreds of viewers. even filian uses a cheap premade 3d model for vrchat

It's P2W in the same way I'd consider racing P2W: A better car won't make you a better racer, but a shit car will make it impossible to fully reach your potential

Better question: define "alot of money"
Theoretically i pay 350 or so for a fully rigged model, that a scam or a steal?

If you have no talent, money will not get you very far for very long. Even exposure from an actual company won't help you out if you are completely talentless (see: nijisanji later waves).

>> No.65714085

It depends
Do you have a good personality or ability to fill a niche?

And yet, an expert driver in a mediocre car can beat a shitty driver in a top-tier car under most conditions
A beginner driver is probably best off practicing in a cheap car first, it's always possible to upgrade later

>> No.65717141

Wouldn't it be more lucrative to learn how to make models and rig them?
You would always have a second income revenue if your stream fails.

>> No.65717911

You have to have the luck to go viral, and then you have to retain as many people as possible during that chance. Sometimes it's the algorithm, maybe got into a big talent agency, or maybe they got a big content creator to react to or clip their content. Then you have to make a consistent schedule to make content that people want to see to not lose the people you gained. The paradox to that part is that maybe the content you make to retain your current fan base is inhibiting your growth outside of your fan base.

For example a decade ago starcraft 2 was really big, you keep on making starcraft 2 content but slowly you notice that your numbers are dropping. Not as many people are interested in starcraft 2 and people naturally drop off of the internet or get bored of a certain topic, which is why gaining new viewers are important. You then try to start doing the hot new thing that's not starcraft 2 to gain new fans, and your old fan base isn't interested and you get a lot less viewers than normal. Let's say your peak was 500 viewers and the slow decay makes you go go to 400 viewers and the genre switch makes you go to 200 viewers and a single stream but you see a few new faces in chat that are trying you out for the first time. What is the right choice?

This is why I think that making the content focused around your personality is king because no matter what content you try you will have your fan base and you can try new things and get new viewers. I think back in the day there was a YouTuber called admiral bahroo. Most of his content was based around borderlands 2, but there's only so much content that you can cover in the borderlands series. After he switched to twitch for live streaming he tried out destiny which I think worked out since the rest of his friend group also went over, and he's been more comfortable streaming more types of games. Last I saw him he streams with a mini panda Vtuber model that's being held by a silent girl. He attributes his early success to having good emotes to bring in subscribers.

Are you desired by men? You will do good an an expensive model will buff you.
Are you not desired by men? Pander to right wing poltards or play strategy games to start off with.

Well... Part of is luck. Without going into too much detail, I know a chuuba I watched regularly that had pretty much the makings of success.
>Extremely nice model with good rigging from a famous artist that worked on a model from NijiEN
>Very cute. Good at talking / being sociable
>Streamed pretty regularly
>Knew lots of people in the scene as well and would occasionally get invited to bigger events too.

She didn't make it past 10k follows on twitch and graduated. Follows are outdated now since she's been away for awhile, but it's sitting under 6k now.

Later, she reincarnated under a small corpo. Over 10k subs now.

There's a limit to how shitty your equipment can be, from personal experience, if you wanna learn how to play the keyboard, an entry level Casio is fine, but if you go below that, you'll struggle with shit outside your control, like notes not registering if you play too fast

>> No.65728451

>>65723376
True. You don't really need $20000 worth of models, assets, tracking and mic. But you do need a mic good enough that you aren't a living Xbox 360 lobby flashback, and a model that's at least not actively unpleasant to look at.

The better path is actually 3D modelling, as it gives you a double fallback
>Best case scenario, you get both a successful streaming career+regular comissions
>If that fails, you at least get vtuber model comissions
>If that fails, at least you can try to get work on games and animation
Now, you may be wondering
>Doesn't Live2D also have a double fallback?
No, skills learned from Live2D aren't really applicable outside of it, drawing-wise it's mostly more restrictive layering, and rigging-wise there's not much use for Live2D outside of vtubing, only other scenario it's used is for gacha characters, which you're unlikely to land a job in
