I think that reflects more on how shitty modern media is if they naturally gravitate towards the big titles of 20 years ago - aka heavily in pre-woke Hollywood times. Girls like Legolas and Aragorn etc because they like good-looking, masculine heroic white guys = you know, that thing Hollywood has been trying real real fucking hard to suppress lately. LotR is also just honest with itself, it isn't a veneer trying to preach about modern things or anything like that, it's just trying to tell a good story earnestly and nothing about our current world exists or matters to the setting. I suppose maybe younger kids find this idea refreshing that maybe, media can be just about fun and entertainment and isn't just an alternate way for uncool butthurt people to try to tell you what to think, how to feel. Nobody likes being told what to do unless it was something they already agreed to support in the first place as a reinforcement mechanism.

I feel like people who say this haven't watched the Bakshi version in at least a decade. Look, I love Ralph Bakshi, American Pop is legit one of my favorite animated movies of all time, but the Bakshi LotR is insanely flawed. Peter S. Beagle (the screenwriter) sliced up whole pages of dialogue and left in only the lines that most people remember. Almost nothing is given a full explanation, and what we do get is usually rushed and leaves out important details. For example, Gandalf asks Frodo if he sees any writing on the ring. When Frodo says he doesn't, Gandalf tosses the ring into Frodo's fire, then pulls it out a moment later, remarking that it is still quite cool. However, he doesn't bother looking for the writing he was attempting to reveal. Later, after several lines stating outright that the ring is indestructible, Elrond declares that the ring must be taken to the fires of Mount Doom. What he doesn't tell us, unfortunately, is that this is the only fire capable of melting it. Without that line, non-readers have no idea why the Fellowship is undertaking this quest. There's also other shit like the Saruman/Aruman inconsistency that was forced on them by executives, Sam is butchered as a character for the first half of the film (and is really ugly for some reason), the rotoscoping is REALLY bad sometimes, etc.

Yes, John Hurt is amazing as Aragorn, but he's not the only thing in the film.

I am not saying that the cartoon LotR was an amazing movie or an amazing adaptation. What I am saying is that nearly every memorable shot in Jackson's LotR is a shot for shot remake of the Baskhi LotR. All the shit with the wraths in FotR was taken shot from the bakshi version.
What people like about the Jackson LotR was either directly from the book or directly from the bakshi film. everything else he did was pretty hit or miss. Like changing aragorns character and having him cut the dudes head off. Some of the things he did were fine like giving aragorn a bow and removing some characters to be replaced by arwen. other shit like never fucking mentioning the barrow blades are anti wrath magic or having aragorn have a sword on weathertop was dumb
Basically, jackson is a kind of shit director and his major contribution was actually getting the damn thing filmed. All the actual good parts and magic come from tolkien.
Kind of like how george lucas is really talented at coming up with the general idea and the lore and world building, but his dialogue is really eh, he didn't direct most of his best movies (and they are better for him not having directed them) and he is very much someone who is only good at creative decisions when he isn't allowed to be the only one making them.
