Any kind of translator is sketchy. You can watch movies and pick out really liberal translations. You can hear someone say "shit" in french and get "you fucking asshole I hate you" in the subs. I'd rather have a more serious attempt at clips by someone who isn't perfect than poor quality clips with bait images. Also, clippers are so motivated by making money that they will always make clips from a stream if they spend time watching it. So often lately I just wonder why they chose to clip what they clipped. Clips used to be funny.

That's how it was back in the days before EN, China was responsible for translating vaste amounts of hololive to English. When hololive turned it's back the Chinese people these clips have slowed down.

The sad part is that localization is important, but they usually use it as a shield for their changes and nonsense. Certain phrases, jokes, and other such things don't have a good way to translate. And there are two ways to handle it: TL Notes (which I greatly miss) or localizing it. I guess there is a third thing: just make shit up and pretend it was accurate.

Occasionally that can make sense such as when a JP would say "bitch", which is an English loanword to Japanese, but means "slut", so a translation would need to change it to that. But I do know what you mean. It can be jarring in cases not like what I described.
