Zentreya fans exist, but like all VShojo members any mention of them brings out a bunch of antis with hate boners, so the threads aren't very common.

Regardless of what people think of her, she did just raise $42k for charity. Considering VShojo as a whole raised $72k for Toys 4 Tots on Christmas and just 2 months later one member is raising more than half of that, next Christmas could get wild for charity.

Mostly that, also in the particular case of Zentraya his design is Tumblr OC-tier, and not only the TTS gimmick is unfunny and gets old really fast, but he's a slow-ass typer and his reactions come 30 seconds after the fact

She doesn't type shit. She speaks into a mic which records the speech as text, then the TTS kicks in. I don't know how anybody can watch Zen and think she types anything while playing games that require two hands. Also, with the new model, you can see her mouth moving before the TTS kicks in, which might have been half the reason to switch to it. Old Zen's 3D model had the mouth only respond to TTS so she couldn't smile or react to things in real time, instead having to use VRChat like facial emotes. She has a new 3D model on the way, too, which should take advantage of these things better.

I saw the big numbers and joined for a stream. There was 3 songs all being played over each other with random garbage sound effects going off left and right on top of the streamer's voice and random chat messages being read aloud by a different robot voice.

IMO the appeal of vtubers is their voice, it's the only human thing left. When they don't have that, it's just this weird digital puppeteering. When I was a teen and first discovered I could make the robot voice say "penis" it was really funny. The gimmick wore off really quick. I can't stand robot voices. From the daily robo spam calls to low quality internet content. I don't understand how Zentraya is popular. Could barely stand to be in a stream for longer than 5 mins.

Now before you actually DO run off and do this, let me state that at times Zen's chat can get chaotic, but that usually is at the very beginning when the alerts get backed up and / or when something really funny happened. But even with that chaos I've never heard a situation like what you're describing. Zen's chat has it's moments, but it's not THAT bad.

I've had no problems with Zentreya until they (multiple) posted political cringe on their twitter. I don't even care if it's more than one person behind the avatar or if they did tumblr-tier RP before, tweeting US politics using your vtubers persona is worse.
