Straight male StarsEn fan here, which I imagine made up the majority early on considering how reminiscent they were of older let’s play groups like SBFP with majority male audiences. That type of content is still happening with them, but only in groups for the most part (jury still out on Armis). At this point, the only one I’m watching solo is Bettel since he’s genuinely funny and he would feel right at home on the couch with other male-aimed groups like Oneyplays or Friends Without Benefits. Yeah, he has a lot of women fans, but it doesn’t affect his content.
I’d assume Ruze would end up with a majority male fanbase based on his interests and content, but who knows.

I think male vtubers are a fundamentally flawed concept.

The whole point of this industry is to create and cultivate a parasocial relationship between the audience and the performer so that the audience spends money on the performer, that's what it really boils down to. With girl vtubers this is easy enough because the audience wants to be her boyfriend, that's the appeal.
If you try that route with dudes of course they're gonna get shit results because the potential audience is tiny, homosexual weebs and yumejos.

A more fruitful parasocial route would be an ensemble cast, to where the audience doesn't fantasize about dating the performer but rather fantasize about being a part of the group, another pal. Think the Jackass guys, the Inside the NBA panel, or countless letsplay channels on youtube. It is always a group of guys bantering one another and having fun.

Instead of making them all have individual mediocre channels and badly pretend to be ladykillers I think you'd have much better results by making it one single channel where there's always at least two of them collabing.

Nah, it's the opposite. I've been watching streamers since early Vinesauce, and Tempus reminded me that men are by and large more entertaining than women. Are Stars THE most entertaining male streamers/content creators? Not even close, but the lack of anti-weeb rhetoric (a big thing among popular male streamers) and the fact I'd rather watch anime than live action any day of the week puts them as high priority streamers for me.
