I happen to be an expert on this topic, here's the timeline :
>August 2023 official WoW Vanilla Hardcore servers are released, following the immense popularity of the unofficial Hardcore Add-on last Spring
>Revitalizes the WoW section on Twitch, almost every top channel is playing Classic Hardcore rather than retail or WOTLK
>Hardcore death compilations become a mainstay of Asmongold's channel and spread like wildfire amobg WoW streamers, then WoW adjacent streamers
>October 2023, OTK (one of the biggest streaming orgs on Twitch) announce a $100k dollars max level duel to the death tournament
>It provides content the entire month leading up to it as contestants all level together with many dying along the way, fueling more death compilations, this time with higher stakes than ever as $100k are on the line
>The finals become the most viewed event in WoW history
>Around the same time, Sodapoppin, another OTK streamer, makes a Hardcore guild with the goal to raid with almost exclusively other big streamers (minimum cut-off to get in the guild is being a 4view with his direct approval)
>slowly picks up traction as more and more big names drip into the guild, eventually snowballing as a whole bunch of massive streamers end up joining over the following weeks, which in turns motivates other big streamers who smell the viewership and content opportunities to join the guild
>Since the members are all big streamers, their death clips make it past the usual WoW channels and into more mainstream places like the LSF reddit
>Host an IRL guild meeting last friday with over 60k CCV, and that was only including the members in the Austin area
>Streamers see the WoW category constantly topping Twitch lately as all those big streamers are leveling together, see their favorite streamers and streamer friends playing the game, and decide to join in as they mistakenly believe WoW Hardcore is the meta (it's not, only Sodapoppin's guild is)
>You are here
That just about sums it up

holy shit thx for typing all that out
seems like i've missed more than i thought, thanks bro
also explains why everybody is streaming daily for at least 8 - 10 hours and sometimes even way longer for like 15 or 16 hours, i'd grind my ass off to when 100k is on the line

I am lucky my ex-wow-addict oshi got ignored by her friends when she wanted to do wow hardcore with them weeks ago when it first started.
Imagine almost all of the chuubas you watch participating in some event you dont give a shit about and it takes up their entire Stream time.
Would be funny if we get more vtubers causing normalfag seeth though.

Wait, did they make a Rogue-like WoW so that when your character dies, it dies? That's pretty based. Also thank you for the recap, WoW-anon!
Still not going to watch Assholepoppin and the other 3dpd homos, but will gladly watch a gamer chuuba who wants to get into it. Has anybody expressed interest? Biboo, Kaela, Tenma, Pomu?

It started with self-imposed challenge runs, then addon that tracks if you and others died or not (people cheated that one too tho), and when the entire thing got popular enough WoW made official server for that.
With retail being so shit Blizzard really wants to go full force on Classic now, ironically enough other than being official it's still gonna be shit compared to Ascension WoW.

Hardcore is a perma death mode so no respawns or resurrects
a bunch of /lig/gers and vshojo girls have tried it, nyanners and vei are probably the most invested at the moment
if you want something a little different, Matara from vshojo tried it for the first time yesterday with some friends and it was very cute seeing her be awestruck at Ironforge and Stormwind, getting stuck on the tram (twice in a row), and dying to some leper gnomes at level 9

oh she tried it for the first time ?

it's not really first time friendly, there's plenty of ways to die unless you've already levelled a few times

>when your character dies, it dies?
it's a hardcore server, if you die that character will be deleted from the server, not the whole acc though so you can still make a new character
>Has anybody expressed interest?
Way more then enough, just pick a random one, don't know about holo and their perms tism though

since when is vei more then 1 person?

i don't even know what the hell you're talking about retard-kun
i know /vt/ is notorious for not watching streams, but maybe you should try it some time instead of just bullshit /here/ when you clearly don't have any clue, it's rly fun

they announced Season of Discovery at blizzcon and it's coming out in about a months time. its going to be a casual experience and many people look forward to the ~2 weeks of content it will have.

other than that, theres a lot of peer pressure currently to join hardcore classic, with many of them aiming to join a raid which is entirely based around content creators. it being hardcore, meaning if you die, your character gets deleted, many people will never hit the criteria to join the raid.

this is lead by sodapoppin (veibae bf), who is a roleplayer and furry and makes the members do embarassing stuff (which is about 80% of the content if you follow any of these people on twitch). i'm pretty sure the only reason this is related to vtubers is because of vei (her bf pressured her to join the guild) , nyanners, and maybe tectone by extension of his viewerbase of twitch vtubers.

if anyone on youtube has jumped on this twitch meta i'd be genuinely surprised as most of the people that will make it to the raid need to have a substatial viewerbase and already are in the /in/ group of the popular twitch streamers.

>> No.62458413

>>62449672
eh, looks like standard twitch procedures. whenever a new game comes out or something becomes popular for a moment, everybody on twitch leeches off of it. it'll probably return to normal within a week. i used to like WoW a lot, but it's dead now. WoW classic feels like a desperate cope trying to return to what once was, even though it will never feel the same.
