In France nobody has issues talking about animes even around normalfags especially since the lockdown, now I would say 9/10 people between 10 and 30 at least tried to watch one anime in their life, even during the 80-90s there were a bunch of popular animes like Saint Seiya and Dragon Ball with their original soundtrack at the TV and even some games were only released in Japanese and in French, we even had uncensored Evangelion in 1997 and Cowboy Bebbop a bit later.
