Yeah. I'm running locally with a GeForce GTX 1070 (old shit, launched 2016) with an Intel i7-7700k (also old shit) with just 8GB of VRAM (with 4096 contextual tokens). KoboldAIccp. Takes about three minutes to get a paragraph with streaming on, but I don't like getting an entire page anyway and I usually force a stop after a line or two anyway if I want a faster pace.

To follow up, I do see cliches repeat (like "shiver down the spine," and, "grits her teeth") but I'm pretty sure that's more related to model than a lack of VRAM. Very occasionally kobold will crash with a WinException and start throwing me empty responses. Haven't has issues with SillyTavern directly, but, it's a robust HTML interface anyway.
I could probably get much faster results if I use lighter character cards (I tend to pick them ones with over 1000/2000 permanent tokens).

Honestly, your video card is probably enough for it.

Oh, and I also tend to run group chats where I'm more of a director than a participant, telling the AI directly what to do as a narrator instead of a character. Seems kobold is smart enough for that and produces pretty good results on auto responds (the AI will just continue without player input). This local setup is actually several times better than a year ago when the AI craze started. Probably worth if you're interested.

Couple of tips, though. Do NOT go under 4096 contextual tokens (that's how much text the AI will keep in memory to build responses off of) unless you have a real technical reason to do so. You WILL see it go off the rails pretty fast then. And I suggest very highly putting response tokens someplace between 110 and 130 tokens. That'll trim it to a single paragraph response so you're not waiting a year for a page to finish (and prevent the AI from "feedback looping" its own cliches).
Find out how to turn on streaming. You can cut out bad responses really fast by stopping the AI and getting rid of responses that start out off-topic or bad. I nitpick, so I do this about once every four or five responses.

bro... If you are generating locally, use some of the popular models that were trained on vtuber images (I tend to use Holocreamsicle and its newer versions.) There is also a ton of tutorials in vtai OP. Just micro managing the bots reactions and giving them if then orders. This is all theory and probably talked about already but nothing else to do.

You don't actually control the dwarves in dwarf fortress so you are at the mercy of bad AI. Meaning that you need to give them hyper specific order in order to avoid to much FUN.

It's the same concept as a bot when you think of it. You want to bot to give specific results while essentially having no control over how the bots react once you start the bot up. So you aren't just giving the bot orders you are delegating orders to the internal monologue or whatever you add. I am gonna mess with this (giga autism) and see if you can essentially set up a system to run the bot inside of the description. But the key word is micromanaging the functions you want the bot to perform with direction.

Let me test it more and I will tell you if I am full of shit or not.

So some funny updates.

Adding systems to control different functions works, and has had some interesting results, the bot also tends to get "smarter" with each system I add.

On a funny note when I added boobs and vagina systems. The bot suddenly stopped throwing itself at me and demanding sex. In fact doing so made the bot rather uppity and it started acting more in character which I thought was odd.

I'm gonna keep fleshing it out I want to see how autistic I can get with this.

Not to ruin your fun but this isn't actually a functional way of giving a current-generation LLM new features - prompts can't modify the weights baked into internal structure. It's just going to try and 'pretend' that it has all those layers during conversation without actually gaining much in the way of new capability, if any. As an alternative I think adding a line like 'this character is exceptionally verbose, descriptive, self-reflective, emotional, and sensitive' would be a better prompt for a modern LLM to follow if you want 'deeper' responses.
