Kiara was my go-to during that time and she streamed(still streams) a metric assload that I couldn't even keep up with her, let alone show up or watch every single livestream they did. Apart from the comment section, they had an official Discord, and a lot of people would be active on the voice chat channel, even if they had to catch VODs. The sisters even popped in there from time to time if those regulars are right. Fairly sure you can check when someone joined a server on Discord too. There's always gonna be silent fans, and like the other anon said, real fans don't have to prove anything. They know who they are.

If you are just looking in /vt/? probably but if you look at the whole fandom hololive is more closer to homestuck and season 1 and 2 bronies while nijisanji is a lot closer to season 3 and above bronies + steven universe fandom in terms of compatability of fandoms.

GGN was one of my first forays in to anime games/VNs on steam, almost 9 years ago now, that started me on my otaku-culture journey
imagine my fucking surprise when, 6 years later, i started watching vtubers, started occasionally lurking /vt/, and eventually saw these two faces again
as i was just starting out and figuring out which vtubers i liked and wanted to watch, i didn't give these girls the time of day, although i think i can say that they were in the back of my mind

If there's one thing you should watch of there's to get more context, it's the tail end of that graduation stream. I think you should watch a lot more than that, but that has a real grounded look at the sisters and how they really felt about what they had accomplished in their year as vtubers and the weight of the past leaning heavily on them.
