no funnies, no giggles.
should vtubers play into the parasocial interaction
with their fans or should they dictate the line between appreciating and actually loving their fans?

If I was a vtuber and my fans paid my rent, bills, and luxury expenses. I would not be lying when I say I love them and cherish them. So none of them are lying about that.

I'd say establish boundaries, that way I have no excuses like "muh gfe" to fall into debt in order to gain the momentary attention of an eceleb (who most likely has a partner already)

Do what you want and you'll be watched by people who really want to watch. But at the same time they are vtubers in Hololive and will appear in corpo mandaited concerts and collabs, which may not appeal to people who don't want to watch them. It turns out that corpo forces everyone to watch the vtubers someone hates, upsetting the organic balance of viewer filtering.

Don't fence sit, go all in on one side and associate with others who agree with you while staying away from those that don't. That way you are catering to your fans while making sure you don't provide content they don't watch to watch. I don't care that Mori and Kronii are fine with collabing with homos. I do care that they join streams with my oshi that have no interest in them.

Depends on various factors, but they should always due their due research to properly understand the pros & the cons.
(eg lurking /here/ for a several months should be enough to hammer the point through even the thickest skull)
And it’s not that lurking /here/ shows what the entirety of their potential audience will be like. It’s for learning about particular portions of their potential audience that could end up being a significant chunk of their financial foundation. To try to understand the thinking behind both those who tend to only speak through their wallets & attention (like the “typical unicorn” proclaimed by unicorns /here/) and others who will get overly-parasocial about things (not just GFE or opposite sex stuff, one can become platonically overly-parasocial).

Pretty much this entire argument.

Idol chuubas live in a strange paradox where they want the detached anonymity and casual relationships of a regular streamer, but still rake in the undying love, loyalty and admiration that an celebrity idol has.

Like, they'd establish boundaries and ask to keep their personal lives to themselves, but at the same time, they infuse their online persona with their own personality, share their real stories, and be close with their audience that invest hours into their scheduled streams. I don't think you can avoid parasocials with this kind of content.

My armchair advice is to simply handle it with respect. Parasocials might be entitled, gross little CONSOOMERS, but they are the crops you've reaped as part of this subculture. They're your fans. Try to establish your boundaries with a hint of respect for that fact.

>should vtubers play into the parasocial interaction
Vtubers shouldn't fake it. If they feel parasocial towards their audience then they should proudly display it like Kiara does. If they don't have parasocial feelings then they should be bluntly honest about it. Trouble always arises when a vtuber with no parasocial feelings for her audience plays in to parasocialism.

Unicorns run the industry. If you aren't going to pander dont expect to get paid.
I'll be looking forward to your graduation.

they dont view us as humans either, just numbers. so what's your point?

>> No.61651083

Contrary to the popular belief here, there's a healthy balance between both. You guys make it seem like it's either "play into parasocialism" or "hate your fans.'

>> No.61651087

First of all, as long as you're a streamer with audience interaction, you will always have parasocial interactions. And regardless of how you play it, some people will always be too crazy. You can be the driest, most prickly, robotic motherfucker known to man and some schizos will try to become your friend or lover IRL anyway if you're famous enough. It's just a numbers game.

What the vtuber should REALLY be worrying about is the majority of their invested, paying fanbase's inner, honest thoughts after that statistical schizo makes enough moves that they have to take some corrective action.

If your core fanbase's internal monologue afterr learning about some schizo shit goes 'man we had a good thing and this guy is ruining it all, what a fucking loony', you're safe. If your paying fanbase, however, goes 'yeah he's crazy, but I can kind of see where he's coming from', then you have a problem.
And if your paying fanbase's reaction is 'well he's wrong, but she also kind of brought it on herself' then you're probably fucked in the long run.

Meh. Just be nice to your fans regardless how retarded they are. You have literal anime avatar to hide and use as your defense line unless...
