I actually felt like she was seriously trying in the beginning, she changed the language of the game and the voice recognition to English so she'd know what the things are called and could call out in English, but communication was pretty hard because I don't think she understood what they were saying, their voices would be very hard to understand for someone that already only has minimal knowledge of the language to begin with. Polka was more confident talking but she only really said random stuff, which didn't really make it easier so Fubuki gave up after a while as well. I think this was just the wrong game to do this in, it would have been better in a game that doesn't rely on communication as much as this one.

I think there's always going to be a subset of those that do, here and in Japan, but I think most of the sukonbu I've ever interacted with personally and the ones I've seen either see her as a, wait for it, a friend. Maybe a close friend you can confide in, but a friend nonetheless. I think there's also a lot of people who have a lot of love and respect for her as she is. What I mean by that is that they look at what she's done, how she's done it, and for how long she's done it and come to respect her for all the time and genuine effort she's put into being an original Hololive member.

One of the big reasons I got into watching Fubuki was that she felt like someone you'd just chill and play games with. Maybe not there in person, but like someone who'd be talking about an interest or playing a game and you'd have a fun time watching. It really does feel liek you're just talking to a friend about some nerd stuff that you don't have the usual chance to talk about. Maybe that's too parasocial for some people but I don't ever see sukonbu take it that far to where I'd see it as a problem, they just like to chill and talk with someone about hobbies they like.

Video has good points that tend to be talked about, but for me Shirakami Fubuki is something like my dopamine dealer. Some people watch cute animals, I watch Fubuki, she has an easy going personality and her smile is what gets me every time. The way she express herself and how she is so happy about, it's so contagious that I also end up smiling. English comments on a JP-only stream stick out like a sore thumb. Like all holomen, Foobs have her fair share of non-JP schizo chatters. I remember a Russian dude spamming about Foobs "stealing" his money and asking for a refund and another dude that started with the classic "I don't understand anything but I'll keep watching it", watched more streams, got gifted and later started to complain about her FF14 and Dead Space streams. I'm glad the latter fucked off quickly instead of complaining in her chat.

Most of the comments are fine, I still read them when I can. I just report weird chatters (when they spam the chat), fake translators and harassers, even if they are doing it against other holomen, like the guy you posted. I ignore harmless weirdos like _keff*r_ . Unfortunately, because these comments are in a foreign language to Foobs and most of her viewers/chatters, almost no one report these weirdos and they'll keep posting the same schizo shit over and over. Ah, Parasocial, another word that makes people /here/ seethe, partly because of people throwing it around to almost spam levels, which is somewhat understandable. In the case of streamers, it is almost impossible to avoid being parasocial, as it is one of the main qualities of a stream. Unlike the usual and old as time "celebrity crush", they'll play games that you enjoy watching, talk about their lives, read your comments, laugh with you and answer your questions almost every time they appear on your screen, and this have a direct influence over the content they produce. They are much more "tangible" than your average celebrity, as you can interact with them and influence what they do in real time. Answering your first question, yes, I believe that everyone here in /fbk/ (tourists are an exception) is in a parasocial relationship with her, what changes is level of these relationships.

Is it a bad thing? Parasocialism has been around forever and whether it is a good or bad thing depends on the individual and their level of parasocial relationship. If you do something like sending an ocassional max superchat, getting lots of merch from a streamer, or going to a con to take the lifetime opportunity of taking a photo with one of your celebrity crushes, like, say Mads Mikkelsen, you'll probably be called a weird person for it, but it's fine! As long as you don't cause problems for yourself and others, parasocialistic behavior is fine, you'll even get something good for it (a good feeling/entertainment). On the other hand, if you do something like sending a paragraph with something like "I hate that you do male collabs and you should stop doing it", which causes the streamer to private the stream, hatewatching, getting yourself penniless from too many donations/merch, killing your parents because they said that you can't donate to your favorite streamer anymore, getting into constant tribalistic fan fights/discussions that leave you drained and stressed, hate raiding and stuff like that, you'll need some help.

Lastly, I'm biased, but I don't think Foobs should appear in a video about this topic, not even as some sort of meme. I know that she's a fragment of someone else's personality, and that it contains mainly its positive aspects, since it was made to be presented to the general public. I'm also aware that she works for a company, which places some restrictions on what she can say or do. Yes, she does have some gachikois and some unicorns (surprisingly), but sometimes she reminds her viewers to not spend beyond their means, don't bait for the "GFE" (other shitposters will claim otherwise) or superchats. She barely even reads SC and doesn't do streams focused solely on SC reading, not that I find these a bad thing. It's only recently that she's been talking more about her life, which I do enjoy listening to. I know she's no saint, but compared to what I've seen from other streamers, she's far down in my list of parasocial baiting and I respect and love her for that attitude.

I agree with almost everything of what you're saying, I don't understand what the big deal about parasocial interaction is supposed to be. It's not inherently a bad thing. I get a lot of enjoyment out of following her and having something to look forward to (almost) every single day makes wagie life a lot more tolerable. She has given me plenty of motivation during hard times and has definitely been a net positive influence on my life. I learned this whole language just to understand her better! Just because some people overdo it to an unhealthy degree, that does not make this kind of attachment a bad thing in itself. Being invested in one person and being along for the ride of her growth is a lot more rewarding than watching something different every day. I really enjoy her personality, how she presents herself and what she stands for. She does what she does the way she likes without trying to appeal to the lowest common denominator. Even though she does the friend bit all the time, I don't think she is trying to shut down parasocial attachment, but being an Otaku herself, she clearly seems to understand it and encourages it in a healthier way. She never gives anyone the illusion of being a girlfriend or anything the like, but she is receptive to and grateful for people expressing their love for her nevertheless. At the same time, she's not exploitative, she makes sure to discourage unhealthy behavior and seems very grateful for the opportunity she has been given and tries to pass it on by promoting her friends and the company whenever she can. Of course, as you said, that surely is only one part of her personality and there is a lot more to her as person than what she lets us see, but in the end, the way she presents herself is the way we experience her and that is what we got attached to. One just has to be aware that she is a real person with her own free will and all that entails. A healthy mindset is important, you can't allow yourself to be affected to a degree that is detrimental to yourself or her.
In the end, I'm very happy I found her and will continue to follow her wherever she goes. Call me parasocial, pathetic or anything you want, but this fox means a lot to me.
