They had no plans for male vtubers beyond keeping a pin on potential hires for the future when they *had* to debut men. Management really did not want to debut male vtubers, even when the top JP talents are all males

So yeah. The plan was exactly that - to copy Hololive (and they told the talents that they wanted to copy Hololive too. Constantly comparing them internally in the lead-up to the launch of the branch). It was Luxiem, and Ethyria, that fucked it all up and it snowballed from there

When you stop to think about it, Niji EN is basically the same as Vshojo and big indie vtubers except they have none of the same freedoms. At least Hololive is able to differentiate itself by adopting many elements of idol culture. Making the jump from watching Nijis to watching Vshojo or indies is relatively easy, and you have the added benefit of watching vtubers using models they like, playing any games they want, and actually interacting with people they want to hang out with.
