I think how your voice sounds might actually be the most important thing about a vtuber (as long as you know how to avoid dead air). As someone with a large roster of vtubers I keep up with regularly, I could tell you what the 'it factor' for each of them is and the answer wouldn't be the same for any of them. I'd say it comes down to having interests and being vocal about them, as well as being vocal about your thoughts and feelings. There is a line to be drawn though with how open you should be, but it depends both on the sort of people you're trying to attract as well as what you feel comfortable with.
This is probably gonna sound like copout advice, but having fun doing it is important as well. Make vtubing a hobby first. That doesn't mean you can't take it seriously but going into it as a job or an obligation is almost a guarantee of failure.

The issue imo in perusing that is the risk of feeling overbearing and risking doing it too much with little impact. Not a vtuber, but someone I feel who handles this style the best is Ray Narvaez Jr. Previously Brownman from achievement hunter. He 's quick witted in a way that works well solo and blooms beautifully when streaming with others. You need to know when something will be impactful and funny without doing it so often it becomes overbearing, and you need to do it quickly or else it losses its zing.
