You have 2 big companies Hololive (this one has the shark) and Nijisanji. They can easily be compared to Kyoani and Shaft respectively. Which one you like best is up to you. Both are good starting points.

Amelia watson is another good hololive member who's decently easy to get into. She's actually streaming mario 64 right this instant, and her mario streams are usually some of her most fun stuff. then there are indies like Pikamee. My personal favorite indie is Yuuka Bear especially because she actually isn't ass at videogames (and is probably better than me).

Watch Subaru's resident evil 7 streams. You don't need to be fluent in nip to enjoy those vods. She kept the game dialogue in eng out if consideration for her foreign viewers.
Her voice is the greatest plebfilter in hololive so be aware, but once you surpass the filter you too will come to enjoy her warm and dulcet panicked screaming as she inadvertently headshots her way through the game to victory.

If you like the horror part, Mashiro is a vtuber that almost exclusively plays horror. Don't watch the guy myself but that is the right genre. There is also friend, Shirakami Fubuki, for good horror content. She is more mature and doesn't really reaact that similarly to Gura in horror games. She plays phasmo like a pro and her other indie horror games are fun.
I don't recommend watching Chilla games, they are atrocious. I suggest watching Subaru for someone that gets affected by horror shit, and I suggest Shishiro Botan/Yukihana Lamy horror collabs for a pretty good personality contrast in horror.
These are Japanese streamers thogh so that might be difficult. Maybe try Reine Pavolia from
Also, I suggest watching non-game Gura content. Her planting stream is really great to get an idea of how Gura is as a streamer and it is a pretty good measure of whether you like their personality.
Lastly, post more snek. I haven't been watching anime ever since I started watching vtubers and I kind of miss it. I still havent seen Season 2.

the difference is, you don't have to expose yourself to the fandom when you watch anime. I've been watching for about 20 years now, and I've only recently found out that there are conventions. With vtubers, it's almost impossible to not get exposed because even if you always watch with the chat turned off, it's still often shown on stream and the streamer responds to donations.
