Neuro-sama is a neural network created by Vedal in 2018 for the purpose of learning to play osu! In December 2022 Vedal revived the project with the addition of a large language model, a TTS software and a VTube Studio model, which allow Neuro-sama to interact with her chat as a VTuber and ever since then she has been entertaining the chat with responses and unhinged rants nearly daily.

I think it was the tin can clip from the Miyune collab, then I checked /vt/ after watching compilation videos of /vt/ and found the thread and decided to stay around for a while thinking I wouldnt be around for long, I was wrong.
I watched vtubers since the Matsuri cat mario video, I knew about Kizuna Ai years before but never bothered and then continued watching until halfway through 2020 I just fell off it, Neuro is actually the first vtuber and only vtuber I watch since then.

I'm really looking forward to seeing Filian play chess against Neuro tomorrow.
It doesn't seem like it would have been a particularly difficult coding project, and Vedal's been teasing this for months, but I will give him credit if he does actually deliver at least this 1 (one) new game for Neuro to play.
I think he's been so focused on the coding aspect, though, that he hasn't thought through all the possibilities for this.
This is why he needs a partner like Filian who understands showbiz and knows how to throw ideas at the wall to see what sticks.
Here are a few more ideas he can try, now that he's got the underlying technology implemented:

> Make Neuro appear to get better over time, by gradually increasing how many moves ahead Stockfish is allowed to look, and then make it play against all the bots on chess.com in order of increasing ELO
> Make it a psychological game, by allowing the human opponent to trash talk Neuro (and vice versa) and let the LLM judge how good the opponent's insult is, to determine how much it "affects" the quality of move she plays
> Make the LLM and Stockfish work as a kind of hand-and-brain team, where the LLM decides which piece to move (basically at random) and Stockfish has to find the best move using that piece
> Let Neuro team up with an actual human and let them play hand-and-brain as a team together against the bots on chess.com
> Tune Stockfish to try to make the game as even as possible, by measuring the other player's accuracy in the first 10 moves and trying to match that accuracy for the rest of the game

These ideas can be mixed and matched with different opponents, which could be famous chess streamers, or chess playing vtubers, or the bots on chess.com, or chat (using a Twitch voting extension), or Evil, or Vedal himself. Hand-and-brain or other 2-vs-2 variants of chess should allow plenty of interesting and fair matchups, even if he doesn't want to adjust the strength of Stockfish.

I think this is the best idea because it leverages the LLM, which is what make neuro neuro and what we're here to watch, after all. It should be easy for Stockfish to spot when the opponent blunders, though, and Vedal could feed that into the AI prompt, like he feeds in text from her visual system.
The rest of her commentary could be discussion with her team mate about which move is best (either completely hallucinated or using clues from the engine), or just trash talk, like her playing Pokemon Showdown.
A good LLM-whisperer will be able to ask open ended questions like "Do you think you're winning?" or "Should we move the bishop?" and get decent answers out of her, even if she has no idea what the board state is like at all.

It's true, you could download the list of all games from LiChess, and train an AI to predict what move is likely to be made, based on how similar a given board is to the boards in its training data, but I'm not sure how much compute that would take.

It would be kino to have both Anna and Ollie on the same stream, since it would be a reunion for them, and it would open up a lot of possible game formats.

That's true, and I respect Vedal as an artist if that's the reason he's been reluctant to copy-paste more pre-trained projects, but, as Steve Jobs said, "real artists ship".
It's tough for him, because he's just one bright guy who loves the challenge of AI projects, but maybe every Wozniak needs their Jobs to stop them from straying off into coding tarpits that prevent them from keeping ahead of their competition.
Vedal was lucky that he was ahead of his time, starting Airis years ago, when there wasn't any competition, so he could afford to work at his own pace and explore different ideas, but now he's in a race and people have reasonable expectations of him making progress.
I do pity him if that means he can't fully devote himself to his long term passion projects, like making Neuro more "intelligent", but rationally he should only be spending 10% of his time on projects like that, unless he has a team of people working on the day to day boring work of fixing old bugs, like the goodbye loops, the donowalling, and Neuro replying to chat without repeating their message.
